2 College Students Killed After Bike Skids On Uneven Road And They Are Ran Over Bus On Sion-Panvel Highway

The Accident

Two college-bound teenagers lost their lives on Tuesday morning due to an uneven road on the Sion-Panvel Highway leading to the central business district of Belapur. The lads’ bike skidded on the uneven road edge and slid onto the road while they were riding to college. After then, a bus ran over the lads.

The victims, Sahil Vilas Kerkar (19) and Shashipritam Raju Dontha (19), were both enrolled in hotel management courses at Belapur’s Apeejay Institute of Hospitality.

Around 8:30 AM, Dontha and Kerkar were riding a two-wheeler from Mulund to their college in the central business district of Belapur when the accident happened, according to the police. Their scooter slipped on the rough road after they crossed the Uran Phata bridge, and they both fell close to the left rear wheel of an approaching bus. They suffered fatal injuries after being struck by the bus’s back tire.

When the two victims—Kerkar from Mulund West and Dontha from Diva East—arrived at the hospital, they were pronounced dead. In addition to filing a case for carelessness and reckless driving, CBD police have delivered a notice to the bus driver involved in the incident.

According to our studies, the collision was mostly caused by the uneven road surface. A policeman from the CBD Belapur police station stated that if the road had been level, the bike would not have skidded.

The Navi Mumbai Congress Threatens Agitation and Disapproves of the High Prices in the CIDCO Housing Scheme

Navi Mumbai Congress Opposes High Prices In CIDCO Housing Scheme, Threatens Agitation.

The Housing Scheme

The cost of the units constructed under the My Preferred CIDCO project has drawn criticism from the Navi Mumbai Congress party. Recently, CIDCO revealed the costs of the flats it built in places like Kharghar, Taloja, and Vashi. The flats are priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 1 crore, according to the statement made on January 8.

All other flats, with the exception of those built close to the Juinagar railway station, are priced similarly to those built by private developers. The cost of these flats ranges from ₹25 lakh to ₹1 crore. Up until now, CIDCO’s apartment costs have been reasonable and accessible to the average person. However, given the existing costs, it appears that lower-, lower-middle-, and even middle-class individuals would not be able to afford these flats,” stated Ravindra Sawant, the chairman of the Nerul Taluka Congress.

It is stated that CIDCO has moved its focus from providing inexpensive homes for the average person to earning money. Therefore, it is being requested that the urban development agency direct CIDCO to reevaluate the costs. We, the Congress party workers and office bearers, shall go out into Navi Mumbai’s streets and beg the general public for money if CIDCO’s only goal is to generate money. For the purpose of selling apartments, CIDCO has hired a private business and paid them a price in the range of several crores. We believe that CIDCO has established outrageous charges in order to recoup this money,” Sawant continues.

If the price is not changed, the congress party plans to start a public protest in front of CIDCO headquarters.

Netizens have accused CIDCO of being avaricious on the X app for demanding registration fees prior to the announcement of the flat price. “People who now find the scheme unaffordable have lost even the registration amount, as each registration CIDCO charges RS 1000. This is nothing but pure greed,” a user said.

Fire breaks out in Navi Mumbai bus, close shave for 22 passengers.

The Bus

Police in Navi Mumbai township, Maharashtra, said that passengers on a civic transport service bus narrowly escaped when it caught fire on Thursday morning. They said that none of the 22 passengers were hurt and that they were all successfully evacuated. Traffic in the vicinity was backed up for a while as a result of the event.

According to the police, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus caught fire near Runwal Chowk in Manpada limits on Kalyan-Shilphata Road at about 10.30 am.
The driver was immediately notified, stopped the car, and asked the passengers to get down. According to a police spokesman, he then leaped out for safety.

To avoid any problems, the police promptly halted traffic on both sides of the street.
Within 30 minutes, police officers put out the fire with the aid of a water truck, according to Pankaj Shirsat, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic.

He claimed that once the fire was contained, a crane was used to remove the burned bus from the road, resuming traffic. “The traffic cops on patrol put out the fire and successfully evacuated the bus’s occupants. “The road is now open for traffic again,” Shirsat stated. “Special precautions were taken to ensure the safety of vehicles carrying flammable substances passing through the area,” he stated.

The bus riders proceeded on their travels in autorickshaws and private automobiles.

A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody by Roha police on suspicion of raping his 11-year-old cousin sister. His two siblings, ages 28 and 21, were also taken into custody for threatening the victim’s family and protecting the primary suspect while they were enroute to file the complaint.

While her mother was abroad, an 11-year-old girl from Warse village in Roha Taluka was riding her bike outside her home on December 30, 2024, when the first occurrence occurred. She lived close by and was called home by her 25-year-old cousin. “He sexually assaulted her after she got to his house and threatened to hurt her and her mother if she told anyone about it,” said Deputy Superintendent (Roha division) Ravindra Daundkar.

On January 2 and January 3, the same thing happened again. She eventually told her aunt what was going on because she was tired of the pestering, and she told her mother. Daundkar continued, “The two brothers of the main accused blocked the victim’s parents’ path with their two-wheelers on Tuesday as they were going to the Roha police station to register a case and threatened them not to file the case.” The primary accused has been unemployed for four months, while the victim is a sixth-grade student. The other two defendants were employed by a private business.

Following their arrest, the three defendants were placed under five days of detention in police custody.
