With the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Sea Link, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is bringing this game-changing project closer to completion. It will only take 20 to 25 minutes to travel between Sewri and Navi Mumbai. Currently, an astounding 96.60% of the project has been effectively finished. In order to open the sea bridge for public usage at the start of the New Year, the MMRDA is working hard to complete the outstanding works by the end of December. The MMRDA recently made a significant move towards this goal by releasing a tender for the management and upkeep of this large-scale project. International businesses are invited to bid on this tender to oversee the daily operations and maintaining the bridge.

The 21.80-kilometer sea link is expected to greatly enhance transit between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, resulting in a speedier and more convenient journey. This essential infrastructure’s development started in 2018 and was initially scheduled to be completed in September 2022. However, the project was delayed because of obstacles like the COVID-19 and other technological issues. However, the MMRDA is currently committed to allowing vehicles to use this sea bridge by December 2023.

MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee recently examined the project and assessed its advancement. At this point, 96.60% of the work has been finished, bringing the project to its conclusion. Additionally, technical work is being done to guarantee a seamless and effective functioning.

In an effort to hasten the project’s conversion into a functioning transport service, the MMRDA has invited foreign businesses with a track record of operating sea bridges to participate in the operation and maintenance procurement process. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Sea Link will cost a fee, although it will only take 20 to 25 minutes to go from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. Eight automatic toll booths will be erected at various points along the road. The open road tolling approach will be used for toll collecting. The state government created a committee to suggest acceptable toll rates; the group will make recommendations about the specific toll costs. It is anticipated that the committee will provide recommendations soon.
