In connection with the murder in an Audi, two additional people have been detained

Published

on

The arrest of two more suspects last week brought the total number of persons being arrested in this investigation to four, indicating that the Panvel police are moving quickly to solve the murder of Audi. Sanjay Karle, a 45-year-old businessman from Pune, was discovered shot to death inside an abandoned Audi on the Mumbai-Goa highway close to Karnala on November 18, 2022. Sushil Yadav (38) of Karanjade, Panvel, and Bharat Kanitkar (36) of Kalwa have been identified as the two people detained last week in connection with this case.

Ankit Kamble alias Sai (29) and his alleged accomplice Mohsin Mulani (37), both inhabitants of Karanjde, who were apprehended in the first week of January, are suspected of killing Karle and concealing the weapon used in the crime. Earlier this month, Kamble admitted to hiding the crime’s gun alongside his relatives Yadav and Kanitkar during a questioning with the police. And the last two were recently arrested as a result of this. Police haven’t found the weapon yet, though.

“As per Mulani and Kamble, they fled after giving the firearm to Yadav and Kanitkar to conceal it. Senior police inspector Anil Patil from the Panvel Taluka police station stated, “We have not yet recovered the firearm and are hunting for it. Karle is said to have died as a result of his business strategy of defrauding people by offering gold at a lower price. Karle, a local of Pune’s Talegaon Dabhade, Maval taluka, had agreed to sell Mulani and Kamble 200 grammes of gold for 7.50 lakh instead of its going rate of 10 lakh.

Karle, who the Pune police have charged with defrauding several individuals, was paid 5.50 lakh rupees by the accused. However, the businessman requested an additional 2 lakh.

On November 17, Karle had spoken with the two accused. He had requested for the final 2 lakh rupees at the meeting, but the two had urged him to first display the gold. The two got into a battle with Karle as a result, and the two grabbed Karle’s gun and shot him dead. There were five shots fired. The accused reportedly then drove to Karnala, placed Karle’s body there, and then departed, leaving the car behind. The pair turned off their cell phones and escaped to Satara, Bangalore, Jodhpur, and ultimately Nepal.

Three weeks after the murder, the accused escaped back to Nepal while returning to Pune to ask their friends for assistance.

When the police set up a trap for them after receiving a tip, they were apprehended when they returned to Pune in search of legal counsel.

The Pune police and Kamble had already detained Mulani in five distinct incidents each. While the latter maintained a washing business, the former oversaw a pub in Panvel.
