After being defrauded of Rs 2.15 lakh, a 70-year-old Panvel man has lately become the second victim of a sextortion incidence in Navi Mumbai. In October, a 72-year-old man from CBD-Belapur was the first victim of sextortion and was forced to pay Rs 1.27 lakh. In all cases, the sextortion scheme involved an unidentified lady making a WhatsApp video chat and undressing herself while seeking to charm the victims. The victim is later shown the recorded footage, in which she can be seen on the same screen as the naked woman.

They then pressure the victims into sending money to the accused’s bank account by threatening to distribute the video to his family and friends and make it popular on social media. “In the latest sextortion case of the 70-year-old Panvel man who was blackmailed for Rs. 1.31 lakh, the victim had received filthy photographs on his WhatsApp from an unidentified woman,” said DCP (zone-2) Pankaj Dahane. The victim was then the recipient of a WhatsApp video call from the woman in which she could be seen being completely exposed. The victim ended the call right away. However, the victim and the lady were seen on camera during a video chat that the woman had taped.

Eventually, if he did not pay, the woman threatened to share the graphic video with his family and friends and sent it to him via WhatsApp. The victim eventually paid 2.15 lakh rupees as a result. He reported her to the Panvel city police station on December 1 when she persisted in demanding additional cash. “Earlier in October, a woman had stripped on video call, and a 72-year-old guy from CBD-Belapur was similarly blackmailed. After that, two men, one of whom pretended to be crime branch officer Vikram Rathod, forced him to pay Rs 1.27 lakh to Sanjay Singh, one of the men who had threatened to go viral with his video.
