Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as 15th chief minister of Assam
Urkhao Gwra Brahma, a senior leader of the Bhartiya Janta party ally United People’s Party Liberal, also swore in the simple ceremony amid restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Sarbananda Sonowal, who himself had proposed Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to succeed him in a legislator’s meeting, however, has confined himself to the role of a legislator.
Though Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal stayed out of the cabinet, at least seven ministers from the former chief minister’s seventeen-member cabinet have been as it is retained. These include legislator Atul Bora, Kaliabor legislator Keshab Mahanta, BJP’s Dhalai, MLA Parimal Sulkabaidya, Dharmapuri MLA Chandramohan Patowary, etc.
Assam Bhartiya Janta Party president Ranjit Dass, who had contested the election from Patacharkuchi constituency and won with a huge margin of over 55,000 votes, is among the 6 new leaders in the cabinet of Himanta Sarma.
Shortly after the ceremony, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that his newly constituted cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss ways to reduce the coronavirus surge in the state. “Covid situation in Assam is alarming. We’ve seen that our daily cases have crossed almost 5,000. Tomorrow when we meet for the first time in the cabinet, we’ll discuss the situation from all perspectives and we’ll take all measures required to contain coronavirus outbreak,” he said.
“Until and unless Covid situation in Assam is controlled, the situation in the northeast will never come under control. We’ve our responsibility towards our citizens & entire northeast. So, Assam govt will do its best & tomorrow after the cabinet meet I’ll elaborate our line of action,” he added.

Thrill Above 300 Feet: Palghar Unveils Glass Skywalk at Dabhosa Waterfall
Independence Day Opening Brings Thrill-Seekers to Palghar’s Tribal Heartlands with Breathtaking Canopy Views
The Skywalk
Tourism in Palghar district got a high-altitude boost on Independence Day with the grand unveiling of a spectacular glass skywalk at the famous Dabhosa Waterfall. Inaugurated by Maharashtra Forest Minister and District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the landmark project marks Palghar’s first-ever transparent skywalk, sparking immense excitement among locals and travel enthusiasts.
Engineered to offer an adrenaline-pumping perspective, the structure features a 5-meter-long transparent glass walkway leading to an 11-foot-wide circular viewing deck. Suspended high above the gorge, it gives visitors a front-row view of Dabhosa’s white waters cascading nearly 300 feet down into the lush green valley below.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ganesh Naik highlighted the dual focus on thrill and regional growth. A designated parking area roughly 400 to 500 feet away is being developed via specialized agencies to manage visitor footfall smoothly while generating vital local revenue for the village panchayat.
“Under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, our focus is bringing economic and educational progress to tribal-dominated districts like Palghar,” Naik said, emphasizing that eco-tourism projects create sustainable livelihoods.
The inauguration saw a strong turnout of dignitaries, including MP Dr. Hemant Savara, MLAs Rajendra Gavit and Harishchandra Bhoye, District Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, and SP Yatish Deshmukh. Combining scenic beauty with an edge-of-your-seat thrill, Palghar’s newest jewel is poised to become a must-visit weekend getaway.

Unplanned Redevelopment Will Make Vashi Unlivable: Ganesh Naik Orders Strict Probe
Senior leader demands action against corrupt officials and halts suspicious building demolitions in Sector 9.
The Redevelopment
Raising a stern alarm over reckless urban expansion, State Minister Ganesh Naik has ordered a crackdown on questionable redevelopment projects across Navi Mumbai, taking a strong stand to protect the planned character of the satellite city.
Focusing on two controversial redevelopment sites in Vashi Sector 9 the Naivedya and Albela buildings Naik directed municipal officials to immediately halt suspicious demolitions, revoke dubious commencement certificates (CCs), and initiate strict action against civic personnel involved in illegal approvals.
Addressing citizens at a recently held Janata Darbar, Naik voiced deep concern over the misuse of cluster redevelopment schemes and Floor Space Index (FSI) regulations, warning that unchecked high-rise construction without matching infrastructure will overwhelm roads, water supply, and parking facilities.
“If increased FSI is granted to every building without planning proper roads, parking, and water supply, Navi Mumbai will become completely unliveable,” Naik asserted, urging an immediate audit of civic approvals. Ganesh Naik’s firm stance underlines a growing effort to hold civic authorities accountable and ensure that urban renewal respects public safety, transparency, and the long-term wellbeing of residents.
