For The Semi-Naming Rights Of Metro Stations, CIDCO Is Accepting Bids
A request for proposals (RFP) giving semi-naming rights has been released by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for the licensing of spaces at 11 stations on the Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1. There is 600 square meters of interior advertising space available at ten stations, from Pendhar to Belapur. The idea of semi-naming allows commercial houses’ branding or emblems to be prefixed or suffixed to metro station names.
Even though Navi Mumbai Metro’s commercial operations started in November 2023, CIDCO is aggressively looking for non-fare box revenue (NFBR) methods to make sure the project can support itself financially. Apart from collecting fares, CIDCO also intends to make money from other areas, such retail sales, food and drink, real estate development, and ads, both within and outside of Metro stations.
As per the present design, eleven stations ranging from Belapur to Pendhar would have semi-naming rights available. “There is 600 square meters of accessible interior advertising space spread across 10 stations, ranging from RBI to Pendhar. Of this, the Licensee will receive 300 square meters, and an out-of-home (OOH) agency will be granted a license for the remaining 50% to be used for third-party advertising. The Authority has solicited a second tender for this purpose, according to a project official.
There is 1,275 square meters of available advertising space at CBD Belapur station. Of this, the Licensee will receive 300 square meters, and an OOH agency will be granted a license for the remaining area to be used for third-party advertising. It is expected to have 4.1 lakh unique passengers per day by 2031, making it one of the busiest lines in India. As of right now, Belapur station is the busiest on Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1, handling 119,425 passengers each month on average.
According to a project official, “public transportation projects like the Metro are capital and maintenance-intensive, so they cannot be financially sustainable by relying solely on farebox revenues.” He also mentioned that it takes significant financial resources to provide top-notch commuter services, which is why CIDCO looks for streams of income other than fare collecting.
