Dubai Sheikh has been ordered by a UK court to pay his ex-wife £550 million in compensation
The Dubai sheikh has been ordered to pay a record amount of roughly £550 million ($730 million) to his former wife and children in a divorce settlement by a London court. The settlement, estimated to be worth nearly half a billion pounds, is on track to become the largest award ever made by a UK court.
According to reports, the court ordered Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum to pay Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, his former wife and Jordan’s King Abdullah II’s half-sister, a lump sum of £251.5 million and a bank guarantee of £290 million to cover the children’s maintenance and security as adults.
Sheikh Maktoum was also charged by the High Court in October with employing surveillance software and hacking his ex-phone, wife’s and the court claimed that the Sheikh had harassed and intimidated his wife Princess Haya both before and after she left for England. The primary threat against Princess Haya and her children, according to Justice Philip Moor, came from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the prime minister of the United Arab Emirate and a strong Gulf ally of Britain. Sheikh Mohammed had “agreed that his wealth was sufficient to pay any reasonable request,” according to the court’s verdict.
“I am entirely satisfied that this means that, while HRH (her royal highness Haya) and the children would require security provision in any event, given their status and the general threats of terrorism and kidnapping faced in such circumstances, they are particularly vulnerable and require water-tight security to ensure their continued safety and security in this country,” the court stated in its order. “Most critically, and totally uniquely in this regard, the biggest threat they confront is from HH (his highness the sheikh) himself, not from outside sources,” he continued. This is exacerbated by his access to the full force of the state, as seen by his ability to employ Pegasus software, which is only available to governments.”
The Sheikh had already organized the abduction of two of his children, Princess Latifa and Princess Shamsa, and compelled them to stay in Dubai. The Sheikh, according to Latifa, had her kidnapped.
Princess Haya was also forced to leave to London by a High Court judgement in 2020, which found that the ruler of Dubai had subjected her to a condition of fear and intimidation.
Princess Haya now resides near Kensington Palace, west of London, with two of her other children in a house she acquired from Jordan’s late King Hussein. Sheikh married Princess Haya for the second time in 2004. Sheikh divorced Princess Haya in 2019 under Sharia law without her knowledge, according to the court verdict.

Sanjay Raut is granted bail in the Patra Chawl Land Scam
Sanjay Raut, the PMLA of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), was granted bail on Wednesday by the PMLA Court in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case involving the Rs 1034 crore Patra Chawl land scandal. A guarantee of Rs. 2 lakh was required to obtain the bail.
According to the sources, Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, and his co-accused, Pravin Raut, appeared before the court today. During the hearing, the Additional Solicitor General asked for a temporary halt to the bail decision’s implementation so that the ED may appeal the Mumbai PMLA court’s ruling to a higher court.
Only a one-week stay is all I’m asking for. A two to three day delay may also be granted by the court. We want to read the rules, and that takes time, said the Additional Solicitor General, according to a report. Sanjay Raut and Pravin Raut were granted bail, and the Enforcement Directorate stated that if the court did not grant a stay, it will appeal the bail decision to the Bombay High Court. Pravin Raut, another defendant in the case with Sanjay Raut, was also given bail.
Recent sources indicate that the prosecution’s request for a stay of the bail order was denied.
Before the detectives raided his home and questioned the leader, the ED had twice summoned him in connection with the case. The ED held the leader for additional interrogation on July 31 because he didn’t adequately react to the investigative team.
The Patra Chawl case is related to Mumbai’s Goregaon neighbourhood. It is a piece of property owned by the MHADA, also known as the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority. A scam worth around Rs 1034 crores exists. The case has resulted in the seizure of Sanjay Raut’s property worth 9 crore rupees and his wife Varsha’s property worth 2 crore rupees.
A real estate developer named Pravin Raut, who is also a co-accused in the case, is accused of defrauding residents in Patra Chawl. On this property, a construction company had been hired to build 3000 apartments. Of these, the residents of this area were to receive 672 flats. The remainder was supposed to be donated to MHADA, but in 2011, several portions of this large site were sold to other homebuilders. The initial chawl occupants have not yet gotten the units.
Notably, the investigation into the Maharashtra-based PMC Bank scam coincided with the crucial role that Pravin Raut and his business, Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited, played in the crime.
Sanjay Raut, a member of parliament, had already asserted that a fabricated case had been made against him due to political hatred. The leader’s full involvement in the money laundering case was established by the ED. At 3 p.m. today, a court will determine whether to postpone Sanjay and Pravin Raut’s arrest warrant.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Praises Technology
As per Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the government’s use of technology for benefit transfers to specific groups of people has closed loopholes and assured good governance.
In her Friday NT Rama Rao Memorial Lecture, she stated: “By utilising technology, Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi has stopped the leaky bucket process. There are no leaks, and the required beneficiary receives the funds “.
GITAM
She stated at the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management that technology has grown into a significant tool for curbing human stupidity and temptation (GITAM).
According to Sitharaman, “Today, the way we have utilised technology is guaranteeing that benefits reach the general public, one of the goals of good governance has been realised,” according to a news release by GITAM.
The Prime Minister said earlier this month that the government had already given Rs 25 lakh crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
“This is hardly a failsafe method, I admit. Ingenuity will have a component where individuals will be able to hack even this, but right now, it is certain that only the rightful owner should receive what is being used without any form of theft. In order to accomplish the goals, good governance entails seeking out the necessary tools ” she explained.
She emphasised the principle “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,” which states that there should only be a suitable amount of government where it is necessary.
She stated that creating trust among people is essential for effective government.
