During the Legislative Council of Maharashtra’s budget session, which is now taking place at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, MLA Manda Mhatre has been vocal in her support of Diwale Village’s recognition as a Smart Village and has also addressed urgent concerns pertaining to Navi Mumbai’s project victims.

Mhatre supported the initiative started by Belapur Assembly Constituency MLA Ashish Shelar to move Maharashtra’s villages toward smart development. In conjunction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 introduction of the idea of Smart Villages, Mhatre emphasized the need of expanding development projects to rural regions while thinking back to the creation of Navi Mumbai and its noteworthy accomplishments in cleanliness and urban planning.

Mhatre adopted Diwale Village, a community of fishermen in Navi Mumbai, and took the initiative to turn it into a Smart Village by directing funding from a variety of sources, including MLA money, municipal funds, and government projects. She also resolved issues with project participants, obtaining compensation for 300 Koli brothers impacted by the Nhava Sheva-Shivadi Sea connection project.

In addition to advocating for fair toll prices on the Nhava Sheva-Shivadi Sea Link, Mhatre also draws attention to the predicament of regular people who are forced to pay excessive tolls. Her request is for the government to reevaluate toll prices in order to lessen the financial burden on commuters.

Mhatre has also brought up concerns about the crumbling structures in Navi Mumbai, urging the development of emergency shelters to lessen the hazards to the locals. She also supports expeditious land acquisition for project victims and better housing facilities for police officers.

Mhatre calls attention to the government’s failure to provide housing alternatives for those affected by the project, urging it to move quickly to achieve justice for all parties involved. She also stresses the importance of land ownership rights in Navi Mumbai and urges the government to act quickly on this issue.
