Bulldozers are back in operation in Uttar Pradesh, thanks to CM Yogi Adityanath’s return to power. On Friday, April 8, 2022, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reportedly issued directions to state officials, stating that bulldozers will only be used against criminals and mafias and that they will not be used to demolish impoverished people’s cottages or shops.

The administration was told by CM Yogi to be sensitive to the poor.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned officers that there should be zero tolerance for crime and offenders, as well as sensitivity to the underprivileged. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, issued stringent directives that bulldozing unlawful properties should be used only against criminals, not to harass the poor. He also stated that people who occupy the property of the poor should be dealt with immediately. This order will ensure that no complaints will be filed as a result of this action.

“Directions have arrived that the bulldozer must not be deployed,” stated ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar. Illegal construction has been tackled with bulldozers. Illegal construction of government property and land are included in this category. Before demolition, all legal procedures have been completed.”

“Wherever the municipal corporation undertakes demolition work, there is a mechanism for maintaining peace and tranquility, and the police force is assigned for this,” he added. This should not be misapplied in any way. Bulldozers are not allowed to be used in areas where the legal process is still underway.”

The Yogi government’s past five years have been marked by the removal of unlawful encroachments and a crackdown on criminals. CM Yogi’s government was re-elected in March 2022 with a large mandate based on the pledge of strong law and order and corruption-free governance.

On April 7, 2022, the Bareilly Development Authority destroyed and dismantled an illegally built petrol pump belonging to Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Shahzil Islam. Criminals have voluntarily surrendered to authorities in the face of bulldozer action in several incidents.
