At National Workshop, NMMC Chief Presents Navi Mumbai’s Water Supply System

Dr. Kailas Shinde, the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), gave a presentation on the NMMC’s Water Supply Distribution System and highlighted the ‘Innovative Billing and Collection Mechanism of NMMC’ at the national workshop ‘DFT – Drink from Tap’ held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, as part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ ‘Amrit 2’ project. The corporation’s image was further enhanced at the national level by the presentation that showcased the sophisticated water supply infrastructure of the city.

Key authorities from several cities around the nation attended the workshop, which was hosted by D. Thara, Additional Secretary and National Mission Director of the Amrit Project, to talk about efficient administration and planning of urban water supply. Presentations on excellent water supply systems that have been put into place in a few places were also included in the event, giving visitors insightful information.

Dr. Kailas Shinde provided a full explanation of NMMC’s distinct water supply payment distribution and collection system throughout the event. His presentation, which was well welcomed by the official representatives in attendance, focused on the continuous update of the control SCADA system and the phased implementation of a 24×7 water supply plan. Additionally, he brought attention to the launch of practical payment methods for water bills, such UPI and QR codes.

The city’s dedication to creative and effective water supply management is demonstrated by NMMC’s participation in this esteemed national workshop. In addition, Engineer Swapnil Desai, Executive Engineer Vasant Padghan, and City Engineer Arvind Shinde attended the function and contributed to the conversations on industry developments and best practices.

Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, who credited the committed work of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, expressed satisfaction with the national recognition that Navi Mumbai’s water supply management system has achieved. “The central government’s recognition of Navi Mumbai’s progressive approach to urban water management is a noteworthy achievement for the city’s residents,” the official said.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.

The final day for filing nominations for the 2024 Vidhan Sabha General Election witnessed a surge of candidates in Thane district, with a total of 281 applications submitted across 18 assembly constituencies. This high turnout signals a competitive race for seats in the upcoming election.
