An Eco-friendly Ganeshotsav And Navratri Celebration Is Called By The NMMC Commissioner

Published

on

The commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Dr. Kailas Shinde, has strongly urged people to observe Ganeshotsav 2024, which is scheduled to begin on September 7, and Navratri, which is scheduled to begin on October 3. In order to emphasize the significance of environmental preservation, Dr. Shinde has proposed a “Plastic-Free Ganeshotsav” and provided new criteria for festival festivities.

At a special meeting on August 14, 2024, the protocols for public festivities were set by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The updated actions consist of:

1. Required Permissions: In accordance with current rules, Ganeshotsav Mandals are required to get prior authorization from the Municipal Corporation or local government.

2. Limited Mandap Erection: To prevent congestion and encroachments, mandaps should be erected in compliance with local laws and court judgments.

3. Eco-Friendly Idols: Shadu clay idols are recommended for usage by devotees in place of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols. Idols made of marble or metal are advised for domestic worship.

4. Health and Hygiene: Mandals should refrain from using forbidden plastic goods and give priority to health-related events such as blood donation camps above cultural programs.

5. Online Pavilion Permission: Pavilion permits are now handled through a new e-Service system. Beginning on August 14, 2024, candidates may submit their applications online at the website of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. There aren’t any costs or deposits required.

6. Noise and Pollution Control: Wherever feasible, plans for online darshan should be developed, and laws pertaining to noise pollution must be scrupulously adhered to. Building temporary pavilions requires the right permits.

7. Immersion Techniques: The use of artificial ponds constructed by the Municipal Corporation is preferred over less environmentally friendly methods.

Dr Kailas Shinde emphasised the significance of honouring the environment while enthusiastically enjoying the festivities. “Let’s embrace a plastic-free Ganeshotsav and restrict our exposure to noise pollution by only using appropriate loudness levels. To make sure our festivities are sustainable, use recyclable and environmentally friendly materials,” he encouraged.
