After a rise in thefts, the Kanda Batata Traders Association calls for increase in security

Published

The management of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) has been advised to strengthen security measures by the Kanda Batata Traders Association Turbhe. The market saw an increase in frequent thefts, which boosted the demand. To stop the rising number of theft instances, the Association has explicitly demanded that more security guards be deployed and CCTV cameras be installed.

At Vashi, the APMC is the biggest market in Asia, with over 25,000 people and 4,000 cars arriving every day. But security has been criticized as being inadequate at this busy market, particularly in the onion and potato yard where people, including women, children, and beggars, sell and distribute agricultural food. Due to this, there has been a rise in thefts of cash and cell phones from the market premises.

A number of thefts have been recorded in the last few days, including the owner of Pushpa Trends’ cell phone and buyer Shyam Keshavan Andheri’s cash bag at E-116. Stronger security at the market premises has been demanded in light of these instances.

The Kanda Batata Aadat Traders Association Turbhe has suggested installing CCTV cameras at the market’s entry and exit gates as well as in various areas to address security issues. They have also demanded that security guards be stationed in some areas of the auction house permanently from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The organization highlights the necessity of security professionals conducting daily inspections and inquiries in order to locate and deal with any unfamiliar or suspicious persons present in the market.

In order to discourage illegal activity, the traders have also asked the APMC Police to be more visible on the property and to often examine it. The merchants organization has formally presented these demands to the APMC Secretary, requesting prompt action to guarantee the market’s safety and security as well as those of its stakeholders.
