A 21-year-old employee of a firm has been detained by Rabale MIDC police for the murder of a security officer employed by the same company. On Friday, the deceased, named as Narayan Manwar (58), was discovered dead on the company’s premises.

The Rabale MIDC police station received a report regarding an accidental death. The police discovered throughout the inquiry that it was a homicide. “Various inside injuries that resulted in internal bleeding and the deceased’s death were listed in the post mortem report. As a result, a murder case was filed on Tuesday, according to a policeman from the Rabale MIDC police station.

The police began reviewing the CCTV video of the roadways going to Steel Craft Equipment Pvt Ltd at Rabale MIDC, the scene of the incident, as part of their inquiry. Despite it being a holiday, Mohit Sheetala Hobe (21), an employee of the same company, was seen by the police going towards the company at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday.

After being taken into custody by the police and interrogated, Hobe admitted his involvement in the murder. On the day of the holiday, Hobe planned to enter the company to use the restroom and do his laundry. Manwar, who was on duty, refused to let him enter, casting doubt on Hobe’s intentions. When Manwar threatened to hold him accountable if Hobe stole anything from inside, Hobe became enraged and attacked Manwar with a stick of bamboo.

Following Hobe’s departure, Manwar—who had suffered several internal injuries—collapsed. By 8:00 p.m., onlookers had discovered Manwar was immobile and had notified the police. Manwar and Hobe lived in the Saibabnagar slum area. The defendant has been placed under arrest supervision until Saturday.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
