The NMMC has initiated a strict action against teachers who were involved in  unauthorized private businesses.

In Detail

Two teachers, Rohit Patil and Omkar Gupta, are the focus of a departmental probe by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), which has taken strong action in response to reports that they were involved in private businesses while working for the municipal school system. The investigation into Rohit Patil, an assistant teacher at Koperkhairane’s Municipal School No. 106, and Omkar Gupta, an assistant teacher at Koperkhairane’s School No. 77, has been verified by Commissioner Shree Rajesh Narvekar.

Following complaints, the authorities sent out Show-cause notices to the teachers, requesting an explanation for their alleged private duties. But their answers were not considered adequate, therefore their defenses were rejected and charge sheets were issued instead, which prompted a departmental investigation.

The charges against Rohit Patil in the charge sheet outline allegations that he conducted unauthorized private business operations over a prolonged period of time while working as an assistant teacher. According to allegations, Patil ran an illegal Chinese restaurant from a car inside the city limits without first getting approval from the authorities. Concerned parties lodged complaints because it was discovered that these illegal activities had a negative effect on students academics.

Similar to this, Omkar Gupta’s complaints describe his involvement in a range of business ventures, such as money transfer services, the facilitation of PAN and Aadhaar cards, online ticket booking, the rental of medical stores in Vashi Naka, and the leasing of a steel factory in Gadkari under the name Harsha Online. A departmental inquiry was put forward in response to the alleged negligence of duty on the part of both instructors, with reference to possible infractions of Rule 16 of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979.
