A 40km cycling track is going to be built in Navi Mumbai

Published

on

To promote environmentally friendly public transit and offer dedicated space for cyclists in the city, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has begun construction on a 40-kilometer cycle track that would span the whole city.

In addition to the current bike tracks in Vashi and Nerul, this will also be built. The Vashi one connects Sector 9 to Sagar Vihar and is 2 kilometers long. The track is dispersed along the Palm Beach service road in Nerul.

Avtar Saini, 68, a former country head of Intel India, was struck by a speeding taxi in the morning on February 28 while riding down Palm Beach Road. The physicians later pronounced him deceased. His passing incited fury among cyclists who lamented Navi Mumbai’s dearth of designated bike lanes.

According to NMMC city engineer Sanjay Desai, the planned cycle tracks would provide cyclists with a safe area where they won’t have to jostle with cars for space on the road. This will lower the likelihood of crashes and the quantity of traffic-related events. Additionally, he stated that they intend to promote cycling among more people, since it is imperative that individuals adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay in shape. The future tracks will appear at Airoli along the Airoli-Ghansoli road. They will be an 8-kilometer track, around 2 to 3 meters wide, with stripes of blue and yellow. A 3.2 km track is proposed in the same location, connecting Sectors 14 and 15 with DAV School.

A 6-kilometer cycling route will go from the Patni corporate area to the Ichchha Purti Ganesh shrine along Patni Road. There will be a bike track in Nerul’s Jewel of Navi Mumbai Garden.

Along the whole 9-kilometer service road portion of Palm Beach Road, a bike track has been proposed. There are plans to build a 4.2 km bike track in Belapur that would connect the Kharghar Raintree hill area to the Ramabai Nagar residential Colony.

“NMMC strives to promote and encourage environment friendly and healthy living for the citizens,” says Sanjay Desai, the municipal engineer. Riding a bike is a great way to keep in shape. We have started the cycle track initiatives in this context.

“We have started the procedures necessary for the building of these new tracks, which will have a total length of over 40 km,” Desai declared. As we finish up the work, we anticipate that they will be prepared in the upcoming months.
