4 Union Ministers will fly to Ukraine’s neighbouring countries
The Indian government announced on February 28 that three Union Ministers, Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju, and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen (Retd) VK Singh, would travel to Ukraine’s neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation of Indians from the war-torn region.
When he was the MoS External Affairs, Gen (Retd) VK Singh led the evacuation effort Mission Raahat in 2015 to bring Indians back from war-torn Yemen. 156 Indians were evacuated by the Indian Air Force on a C-17 aircraft from war-torn South Sudan as part of Operation Sankat Mochan in 2016.
According to reports, Ukrainian security services are making it impossible for Indian people, particularly students, to leave the country. According to reports, Ukrainian agents are not only using Indian people as a bargaining chip against India by holding them captive but also abusing and misbehaving with them.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level discussion on the Ukraine situation. It was resolved during the conference that four union ministers would travel to the war-torn region to manage the evacuation effort and assist students in securely returning home.
India has expressed worry over the safety of its citizens in the United States. TS Tirumurti, UNSC PR/Indian Ambassador to the United Nations, raised worry regarding the safety of Indian nationals in Ukraine, citing allegations of them being beaten and harassed by Ukrainian authorities in a statement. “We remain profoundly worried about the safety and security of Indian people stuck in Ukraine, particularly a large number of Indian students,” he added.
“The difficult and unclear scenario at the border crossings has hurt a negative impact on our evacuation operations,” he continued. It’s critical to keep the flow of individuals consistent and predictable. It’s a life-or-death situation that needs to be treated right away.”
The Evacuation Program for Indian Students in Ukraine (Mission Ganga)
Since Russia’s announcement of military action against Ukraine on February 24, the government of India has been evacuating Indians trapped in the conflict zone under the Mission Ganga initiative. The number of Indians trapped in Ukraine has been estimated to be between 16,000 and 20,000, with the majority of media outlets putting the figure at 18,000. However, the official government count is currently 16,000 people. 907 Indians have been evacuated so far. Before the conflict was launched, the Indian government issued repeated recommendations asking Indians to evacuate Ukraine.

Navi Mumbai Civic Body Bridges the Healthcare Gap with Free Screenings and Follow-up Care Across Local Centers.
The Drive
In a major boost to public health, 1,292 citizens were screened during a free cancer detection drive conducted across various health centers by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
The initiative focused on early detection for common cancers including oral, breast, and cervical cancers giving local residents access to crucial preventive care close to home. Medical teams set up diagnostic stations at Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) to ensure seamless access, particularly for working-class and middle-income families.
Beyond basic checkups, civic health teams provided guidance on early warning signs, lifestyle risks, and the importance of routine health monitoring. Citizens identified with potential symptoms received direct referrals to municipal hospitals for further testing and subsidized follow-up treatment.
Community health drives play an essential role in saving lives by catching illnesses before they progress. By making preventive care accessible to all, NMMC continues to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the city.

Speaking to attendees, Naik praised the hospital’s leadership for prioritizing affordable, high-quality treatment for middle-class households.
What sets the hospital apart, however, is its landmark social welfare initiative announced during the opening by community leader Sagar Chougule and hospital administrator Dr. Swarna Shelke:
- Free Maternity Care for Girl Child Deliveries: To celebrate and encourage the birth of female children, the hospital will waive all delivery charges for mothers giving birth to baby girls.
- Free OPD Services for Seniors: Outpatient consultations will be entirely free for senior citizens aged 65 and above.
