12 years later, a tribal family in Panvel is given their land back

Published

on

With the involvement of Panvel tehsildar Vijay Talekar and members of Uran Samajik Sansthan (USS), an Organization, a tribal family from Hedutane village in Panvel taluka received their 3,200 square metres of land back from an outsider. In 2011, a citizen of Rajasthan who has been conducting business in that area for years unlawfully took the land on a 99-year lease from the illiterate tribal family. Since then, the businessman has prohibited the family from entering the land. Ananta Pokla and his family are the owners of the property that is situated on the outskirts of Taloja MIDC.

In order to seize control, businessman Surendra Singh initially entered into an unauthorised leasing deal with Pokla’s parents. Land that is owned by a tribe cannot be sold without the proper approvals. With one of his tribal allies, Hiraman Ughda, Singh had illegitimately engaged into a property sale deal in 2016. Singh has built homes for his crusher employees, started a garage, and maintained cows and buffaloes on the property. “Our Chirner Ashram school teacher Mahadev Doiphode had invited me to meet Prof. Rajendra Madhavi, Sudhakar Patil, and others from USS,” Ananta Pokla stated. After that, I lodged a complaint with the tehsildar and Panvel taluka police station.

Even the cost of the paperwork was covered by the Navy. Being impoverished caused us a lot of suffering. Santosh Kachare, the local circle officer, reported the incident to the tehsildar of Panvel. The statements of all parties were recorded by assistant police inspector Tukaram Korade of Panvel Taluka. After a three-month hearing procedure, Panvel tehsildar Vijay Talekar ultimately declared the land sale to be unlawful. Staff from the Taluka Inspector of Land Record had measured and demarcated the area on Monday.

According to Talekar, the tribal family’s name has been used to rehabilitate the land. The whole piece of property must be cleared of the unlawful residents. According to the Restoration Act of 1974, Prof. Madhavi stated that the land has been restored. When a tribe’s land is illegally taken away, we are prepared to assist.
