Commercial vs. Canopy: Almond Tree in Vashi Illegally Hacked Again for Hoarding Visibility
Local environmentalists and nature lovers in Vashi are expressing deep outrage after an almond tree next to Ganesh Tower was illegally pruned yet again. The recent mutilation saw the top portion of the tree ruthlessly chopped off for a recurring and obvious motive: to clear the line of sight for a commercial advertising hoarding situated directly behind it.
According to local social activists, this environmental sabotage is part of a calculated, multi-year pattern. The tree was first targeted and illegally pruned in January 2023, precisely one month before the new billboard advertisement was installed. Ever since, the tree has been repeatedly hacked back by unidentified actors whenever its growing branches and leaves begin to obstruct the commercial display.
The chronic defacement has triggered significant public backlash. Nature lovers previously staged a public demonstration at the Vashi site to protest the ongoing destruction. Following the latest incident, activists lodged a fresh complaint with the garden department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
While the civic body had previously filed a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the illegal tree cutting, the practice has continued unabated. The Vashi ward office has confirmed it is currently looking into the latest complaint to identify the violators and take necessary legal action.

Tragedy Turns to Hope: Brain-Dead Vashi Woman Saves Three Lives Through Organ Donation
In a deeply moving gesture amidst immense personal tragedy, the family of a 22-year-old woman from Vashi Gaon has given a new lease on life to three critically ill patients by consenting to organ donation.
The woman, identified as Madhuri Vijay Jaiswal, was rushed to MGM New Bombay Hospital in Vashi following an alleged suicide attempt by hanging. Although family members administered CPR and doctors managed to restore her heartbeat after prolonged resuscitation, severe oxygen deprivation had already caused irreversible brain injury. Following standard medical protocols, doctors officially declared her brain stem dead after conducting two mandatory apnea tests.
Faced with the heartbreaking news, the hospital’s transplant team counseled the family about the possibility of saving other lives. Madhuri’s father, Vijay Jaiswal, along with other family members, bravely consented to the noble cause. On July 17, a team of surgeons successfully retrieved her heart, liver, and both kidneys, which were immediately allocated to waiting transplant recipients.
The Vashi Police have completed all necessary legal formalities. In his official statement to the authorities, the grieving father stated that he holds no suspicion or complaints against anyone regarding his daughter’s death. Thanks to the family’s selfless decision in their darkest hour, three families have found a renewed sense of hope.

Navi Mumbai Cyber Cell Busts Fake Insurance Call Center In Mahape
Mahape Racket Busted After Defrauding Vehicle Owners of Rs 88 Lakh Nationwide
The Racket
In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Navi Mumbai Cyber Police and Crime Branch have busted a sophisticated fake call center operating out of a tech park in Mahape. The scam, which had been running since April 2025, defrauded vehicle owners across the nation of over Rs88 lakh by offering fraudulent motor insurance renewals.
The operation was uncovered after investigators analyzed 145 complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP). By tracing the fraudulent SIM cards used in the scam, the cyber team pinpointed the IT park location. The masterminds targeted citizens by posing as legitimate insurance executives, collecting premiums for policy renewals, and then severing all contact without issuing actual policies.
Three key suspects identified as Prasad Todankar, Vaibhav Ingle, and Fayaz Abbas Nasir have been arrested in connection with the racket. Furthermore, the police have served legal notices to 32 tele-calling agents employed at the center. During the raid, authorities seized a massive cache of digital evidence, including 26 mobile phones, 27 computer hard disks, 5 laptops, and 8 active SIM cards used to execute the calls.
Senior officials have urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant against unsolicited insurance offers. Citizens are advised never to share sensitive bank details or OTPs over the phone. Any suspicious financial activity should be reported immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930.
