‘Sugandhi Shahar Abhiyan’ encourages citizens to take responsibility for cleanliness around their homes and workplaces.

The Launch

The Navi Mumbai civic administration has launched the ‘Sugandhi Shahar Abhiyan Angan Dattak Yojana 2026’, an initiative aimed at encouraging citizens to take greater responsibility for keeping public spaces clean and attractive.

The campaign was launched at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagruha in Vashi in the presence of Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, civic representatives and around 1,200 citizens. Under the initiative, residents, housing societies, institutions and organisations can voluntarily adopt small public spaces measuring around 10 to 15 feet near their homes or establishments. Participants will be encouraged to keep these areas clean, well-maintained, safe and environmentally friendly.

More than 100 citizens have already come forward to participate in the initiative. Deputy Mayor Dashrath Bhagat said the campaign focuses on three elements the building, the surrounding space and the individual with the aim of making cleanliness a shared responsibility. The initiative comes after Navi Mumbai recorded strong performance in the Swachh Survekshan, securing first place in Maharashtra and third place nationally, according to the civic administration.

Officials said public participation will be important in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and improving neighbourhood spaces. Citizens interested in adopting a public space can register through the campaign’s website. The initiative also seeks participation from people who live outside Navi Mumbai but have a connection with the city.

Citizens can check their names and submit claims, objections or corrections under the Special Intensive Revision drive.

The Correction

Navi Mumbai residents have until September 30 to check their names and details in the draft electoral roll and submit corrections under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign.

The draft voter list was published on August 31. Citizens have been advised to carefully check their names, addresses and other details and report any errors, duplicate entries or other issues before the deadline. Those whose names are missing from the voter list can use Form 6 to apply for inclusion. Form 7 can be submitted to raise objections or request the removal of incorrect or duplicate entries. Form 8 is meant for correcting details such as name, age, address or photograph.

Applications can be submitted both online and offline. Residents can use the Election Commission’s Voter Services Portal, ECINET or the Voter Helpline for online applications. Offline applications can be submitted at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).

Officials have urged citizens, particularly those who have recently turned 18, to verify their voter details and ensure their names are included in the electoral roll.

The authorities will examine the claims and objections received during the revision process. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026. Citizens are encouraged to complete the process before the September 30 deadline to avoid missing the opportunity to correct their details.

Shivtej Mitra Mandal combines devotion, culture and social service during its annual Ganeshotsav celebrations.

The Mandal

The Shivtej Mitra Mandal in Sector 4, Sanpada, is celebrating its 33rd Ganeshotsav with a unique ‘Navi Mumbai Cha Kaiwari Sonyachi Jejuri’ theme. The mandal, which has been organising Ganeshotsav since 1994, has recreated the spiritual atmosphere of Jejuri through an elaborate decoration featuring a replica of Khandoba Maharaj. The theme has attracted devotees from across Navi Mumbai, with the chants of ‘Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar’ adding to the festive atmosphere.

Along with religious celebrations, the mandal has also focused on social and environmental causes. A blood donation camp, tree plantation drive and programmes honouring senior citizens and persons with disabilities have been organised as part of the festivities. The celebrations include a range of cultural and community activities, including drawing competitions, children’s games, women’s programmes, Maha Aarti, collective Atharvashirsha recitation, Satyanarayan Mahapuja, Mahaprasad and prize distribution.

The organisers said the aim is to make Ganeshotsav more than just a religious festival by bringing people together and encouraging social responsibility.

President Sagar Gadge, Vice-President Mangesh Kadam, Secretary Rahul Kashid and Working President Vishal Kadam, along with other members, are actively involved in organising the celebrations. Daily aarti is conducted at 10 am and 10 pm, with devotees invited to experience the ‘Sonyachi Jejuri’ theme and take part in the festivities.
