Vashi Railway Police Arrest Tamil Nadu Man for Brutal Knife Attack on Local Train Commuter
In a major breakthrough, the Vashi Railway Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Tamil Nadu for allegedly carrying out a brutal knife attack on a commuter inside a local train in Navi Mumbai. The accused was apprehended after a four-day manhunt and has been brought back to Mumbai for further investigation.
The incident took place on December 23, when the victim, Siraj Abdullah Sheikh (24), a resident of Mankhurd, was travelling on a Panvel–CSMT local train. As the train approached Vashi railway station, the accused allegedly attacked Sheikh with a sharp weapon, inflicting multiple serious injuries. The victim collapsed inside the train and was rushed to Vashi Municipal Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Following the attack, the accused fled the scene, prompting the Vashi Railway Police to register a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act. A special police team was formed, which used technical surveillance and intelligence inputs to trace the accused to Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, where he was hiding at a relative’s residence.
Police officials said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that the attack was the result of an old personal dispute with the victim. He has since been produced before a court, and further investigations are underway to verify the motive and sequence of events.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about commuter safety on Mumbai’s local trains, with railway police reiterating their commitment to swift action against violent crimes on public transport.

Morbe Dam Water Storage Reaches 75.66%, Easing Supply Concerns
Steady monsoon downpours boost primary water reservoir for Navi Mumbai residents.
The Storage
In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents, water levels at the Morbe Dam the primary drinking water source for the region have reached 75.66% of its total capacity, following consistent monsoon showers across its catchment area in Khalapur.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials confirmed that the rising water levels significantly reduce concerns over potential water cuts or supply disruptions in the coming months. The steady inflow has ensured a secure drinking water buffer for over 15 lakh residents across the city.
While the current stock is sufficient to meet daily demand well into early next year, civic engineers noted that sustained heavy downpours are still required for the reservoir to hit 100% capacity and overflow. NMMC continues to monitor catchment rainfall closely to optimize seasonal storage reserves.
