Uran Municipal Council Membership Increased from 17 to 21

Published

on

The Uran Municipal Council will now have 21 members instead of 17, following a new ward formation draft that has received no objections from the public. The number of wards has been increased from nine to ten, with some wards allotted two members and one ward allotted three. The council president will be elected separately.

For the past three years, Uran Municipal Council has been under administrative rule, with officials managing its affairs instead of elected representatives. Ahead of the upcoming elections, the draft ward layout was prepared and made available for suggestions and objections. However, no complaints were registered, paving the way for its approval.

Previously, the council had 18 members, including the president, with two members elected from each of the nine wards. Under the new plan, the council will have 21 members (excluding the president) across ten wards.

Chief Officer Sameer Jadhav confirmed that the draft proposal has now been forwarded to the state government for final approval. Once cleared, this will officially increase Uran’s civic body membership, ensuring greater representation for citizens in local governance.

The expansion is expected to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen democratic participation in Uran, which has been awaiting fresh elections.
