In a heartfelt display of tradition and devotion, Turbhe witnessed its 14th annual Jal Poojan and Kalash Poojan ceremony.

The Puja

Upholding a 14-year tradition for the prosperity and well-being of the citizens, former BJP Navi Mumbai District President and ex-Corporator of Ward 66, Ramchandra Gharat, along with former Corporator Vijaya Gharat, organized the annual Jal Poojan and Kalash Poojan ceremony at their residence in Turbhe. The event beautifully showcased the fusion of tradition and devotion.

The program witnessed the presence of BJYM State Secretary Raj Gharat and Navi Mumbai BJYM Vice President Sanket Patil. Women from the village, including many married women (suhaagans), enthusiastically participated in the event. The Kalash Poojan was conducted with devotion as the women filled intricately decorated pots with water and performed traditional rituals.

A grand Kalash Yatra was then carried out with devotional songs and musical instruments, leading to the historic 81-year-old Turbhe village pond. There, the women offered sarees to the water deity and performed Jal Poojan, praying for the prosperity and protection of the village.

The event turned into a spiritual and cultural gathering, reinforcing Turbhe’s deep-rooted traditions. Ramchandra Gharat shared that this ritual has been performed continuously since 2012, with earlier roots traced back to community efforts in restoring the pond. Devotees also recalled miraculous incidents believed to be blessings from the deity during previous years.

This annual observance not only strengthens religious sentiments but also symbolizes the unity and cultural identity of Turbhe residents.

The Central Crime Branch of Navi Mumbai Police has busted an inter-district gang targeting elderly women inside housing societies to snatch gold chains and mangalsutras, arresting three suspects identified as Riyaz Ramzan Shaikh, Jamalbadshah Manirul Gazi, and Ashik Billa Gazi.

The police recovered stolen goods worth Rs 12 lakh from the trio, including 95 grams of gold ornaments and two motorcycles used in the commission of the crimes. The investigation was triggered by a chain-snatching incident in Khandeshwar on May 15, where CCTV footage clearly captured one of the suspects.

By matching the visuals with criminal databases, technical intelligence, and local informant tips, police traced the gang to Mira Road and Bihar. Investigations revealed that the gang specifically entered residential complexes to target senior citizens before escaping on stolen two-wheelers using familiar local shortcuts, which one suspect knew well from his prior employment in Kamothe.

To evade law enforcement, the culprits would quickly sell the stolen gold in the region and flee to their native villages in West Bengal and Bihar. With their arrest, the police have solved at least nine cases of theft and robbery across Navi Mumbai, Mira Road, and neighboring areas. The accused, who carry prior charges involving vehicle theft and drug trafficking, have been remanded to judicial custody as authorities work to curtail similar residential property crimes.
