Three Children’s Narrow Escape As The Vashi Apartment Floor Collapses

Published

on

On Friday, a significant portion of the ceiling above the two-bedroom flat of three children, ages ten to fourteen, in an upscale Vashi neighborhood fell, creating fractures in the floor. The children managed to escape narrowly. Officials stated that the fall was probably brought on by workers removing concrete from the level above using a strong vibrator. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has offered to relocate the family living in the two damaged flats to Rajasthan Bhavan, even though the workmen left the scene and are said not to have been hurt.

At around 4 p.m., an incident took place at Sudama Cooperative Housing Society’s Plot 49 in Sector 29. The six-story structure was built 10 years ago and has 700 square feet of two-bedroom apartments on each floor. Three children, including 14-year-old Rajvir Gaikwad, were sleeping in a first-floor apartment bedroom when 10-year-old Aryaveer, his younger brother, burst in to tell him about the fall. “Fortunately, none of us were hurt,” he stated, adding that their parents were out at work at the time. Members of the housing society and other building occupants declined to discuss the event.

Soon after the event, prominent civic authorities, including former MLA and Navi Mumbai BJP chairman Sandeep Naik, and municipal commissioner Kailas Shinde of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation visited the scene. Firefighters also hurried to the scene. According to NMMC city engineer Sanjay Desai, the building had a structural examination four months ago, and the results indicated that it was not in a dangerously deteriorated state.

“It’s possible that three laborers who were working in the apartment above made a mistake that led to the disaster. They were removing concrete from the floor with a strong vibrator, which creates a lot of noise. The floor probably collapsed as a result of this,” he stated. Along with the floor, the three employees also fell and left the area. The affected family had been offered to be relocated to Rajasthan Bhavan by the local council if they had no other place to stay temporarily, but Desai stated that they were not injured since the floor had collapsed gradually rather than all at once. Only two apartments had been impacted.

After receiving all information on the job and any rule violations, if any, Desai declared, “We will be taking action as per the law.”

Navi Mumbai Civic Body Bridges the Healthcare Gap with Free Screenings and Follow-up Care Across Local Centers.

The Drive

In a major boost to public health, 1,292 citizens were screened during a free cancer detection drive conducted across various health centers by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

The initiative focused on early detection for common cancers including oral, breast, and cervical cancers giving local residents access to crucial preventive care close to home. Medical teams set up diagnostic stations at Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) to ensure seamless access, particularly for working-class and middle-income families.

Beyond basic checkups, civic health teams provided guidance on early warning signs, lifestyle risks, and the importance of routine health monitoring. Citizens identified with potential symptoms received direct referrals to municipal hospitals for further testing and subsidized follow-up treatment.

Community health drives play an essential role in saving lives by catching illnesses before they progress. By making preventive care accessible to all, NMMC continues to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the city.

The Hospital

Access to quality healthcare just got a major boost for local families. Meta Multispeciality Hospital officially opened its doors in Ghansoli Sector 4, promising state-of-the-art medical technology alongside a deeply human approach to community care.

The facility was inaugurated by Forest Minister and Palghar Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, who toured the premises to inspect its emergency wards, OPD facilities, and advanced diagnostic machinery. Speaking to attendees, Naik praised the hospital’s leadership for prioritizing affordable, high-quality treatment for middle-class households.

What sets the hospital apart, however, is its landmark social welfare initiative announced during the opening by community leader Sagar Chougule and hospital administrator Dr. Swarna Shelke:

  • Free Maternity Care for Girl Child Deliveries: To celebrate and encourage the birth of female children, the hospital will waive all delivery charges for mothers giving birth to baby girls.
  • Free OPD Services for Seniors: Outpatient consultations will be entirely free for senior citizens aged 65 and above.

“Healthcare shouldn’t feel like an unbearable financial burden,” said Dr. Shelke. “Our primary goal is to bring modern medical infrastructure within reach of every everyday citizen.”

With monsoon-related illnesses on the rise, the team also plans to host free community health camps to catch seasonal infections early. By blending modern medicine with genuine community compassion, the new hospital aims to build a healthier, safer Navi Mumbai.
