The Kharghar Hill Festival will be held in Navi Mumbai
The city is preparing to observe International Mountain Day on December 10 and 11 in order to raise awareness of the importance of protecting hills. Local environmental enthusiasts are in charge of planning the Kharghar Hill Festival. The message to conserve the hills and wildlife will be written on a record-breaking vertical banner that stands 100 metres tall and 6 metres wide. According to Jyoti Nadkarni of the Kharghar Hill and Wetlands forum, the main goal of the initiative is to draw attention to the deforestation of our hills and the necessity of protecting them for both the current and future generations.
Development cannot be avoided, but the process must be sustainable, she said. As Nadkarni said, “We are eager to break records while erecting a huge vertical banner on this day to garner public attention and promote the message to care for our hills, which are being destroyed in the guise of beautifying, quarrying, and for producing concrete jungles. Due to careless quarrying or unregulated forest fires, environmentalists have been voicing concerns about the Kharghar Hills, which extend from Belapur to Taloja. According to environmentalist BN Kumar of the NatConnect Foundation, the Kharghar Hills feature a huge and dynamic biodiversity that is presently under jeopardy due to development there.
The main event will take held at Pandav Kada View Point, next to the golf course and Gurdwara. This strategy is currently in cold storage. BNHS has designed a Nature Park in the Kharghar Hills at Cidco’s request.
