Residents Of Taloja Protest Over The Ongoing Water Crisis In Front Of Raigad Bhavan In Belapur
On Monday, July 22, more than 250 people of Taloja phases 1 and 2 braved the unceasing rain to gather outside Raigad Bhavan, Belapur’s CBD, to protest the acute water crisis that the inhabitants have been facing for the past six months. Protesting citizens carrying umbrellas and enduring torrential rain joined the demonstration led by Taloja Federation President Prasad Dhage Patil, who chanted “No turning back now.” The demonstrators held a dharna in front of Raigad Bhawan’s gate and asked to speak with officials from CIDCO’s Water Supply Department.
Enraged by CIDCO’s indifference, members of the Taloja Federation and other non-members vented their frustration over the acute water scarcity problem that has plagued their everyday lives for the past 1.5 years.
“We, the people of Taloja Phase 1 and 2, are reeling under a severe water crisis, despite the fact that the dams have been nearly filled with water due to heavy rainfall over the last fifteen days.” Anurag Shrivastava, a resident of sector 2, emphasized that several sectors of the node are devoid of water for extended periods of time. The areas most impacted are sectors 11-2, which run parallel to the Metro line and don’t receive any water at all from the water supply line.
Three key points were brought up by the residents:
1. Everyone should have access to high-pressure water.
2. Low-pressure locations’ water pipes need to be fixed.
3. The population of Taloja Phases 1 and 2 is increasing, necessitating a daily consumption of 18 MLD (million liters per day) of water, although the supply is currently insufficient. Therefore, Taloja needs to receive more water.
Additionally, they called for Rahul Sarode, a CIDCO engineer, to be replaced since they claim he is impolite and has been pestering people nonstop.
Ultimately, the Executive Engineer B.V. Gaikwad was met by Federation President Prasad Dhage Patil, Shekap Party District Secretary Devendra Madavi, Shiv Sena Leader Baban dada Patil, and a few other delegations to present their demands.
He promised to work toward meeting the aforementioned requests in relation to the water problem. He orally promised that a tender has been launched for the repair of the water line in order to guarantee that everyone receives water with good pressure and to solve the low-pressure water supply in some regions. It is anticipated that the work will be finished by January 2025. CIDCO’s B.V. Gaikwad has promised that the organization will ask the Authority and the Maharashtra government for more water in order to satisfy the demands.

Beyond basic checkups, civic health teams provided guidance on early warning signs, lifestyle risks, and the importance of routine health monitoring. Citizens identified with potential symptoms received direct referrals to municipal hospitals for further testing and subsidized follow-up treatment.
Community health drives play an essential role in saving lives by catching illnesses before they progress. By making preventive care accessible to all, NMMC continues to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the city.
