Anti-Drug Operations And Traffic Policing saw significant success in Navi Mumbai.

With 141 more instances than the previous year, the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate has recorded a notable increase in anti-narcotics operations for the year 2023. There have been 290 recorded incidents of drug possession, leading to the apprehension of 353, including 301 males, 15 females, 30 foreign nationals, and 7 foreign women.

A combined operation in Kharghar on September 1st, as part of the ongoing Drug-Free Navi Mumbai campaign, resulted in the arrest of 14 African nationals and the confiscation of 898 kilos of cocaine, 267 MD, and 36,640 strips of Tramadol Hydrochloride, worth a total of Rs. 4.96 crores.

Thanks to the efficient utilization of technologies like Real, E-Fairway, and I-Bike, the conviction rate at the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate has also impressively increased. The conviction rate was thirty percent in 2022 and thirty-six percent in 2023. The accused in a rape and POCSO case at Khandeshwar police station received a 10-year rigorous prison sentence; the accused in a molestation and POCSO case at Khandeshwar police station received a 5-year rigorous prison sentence; and the accused in murder cases at Panvel and Turbhe police stations received a life sentence. These are notable convictions.

Furthermore, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police proved to be more vigilant in 2023, filing 7,86,396 cases in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act and amassing fines of Rs 14 crore 36 lakh. An extra fine of Rs. 3.78 crores was secured through Lok Adalat cases. CCTV surveillance was also used by the traffic police to find and punish more than one lakh people who broke traffic laws.

The road safety campaign includes Chowk Sabha, First Aid Seminars, Posters, Rallies, and Traffic Garden Visits as public awareness measures. As a result, there were 263 instances recorded within Navi Mumbai’s authority in 2023, 46 fewer unintentional fatalities from traffic accidents than in the year prior.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
