Planning Authority For 14 Villages Is Transferred To NMMC By The State Government
State Government transfers planning authority for villages to NMMC.
The Authority
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development body (MMRDA) has been formally removed by the state government from its role as the special planning body for the fourteen newly incorporated villages in Thane district. To facilitate the development of these villages, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been awarded the jurisdiction of the special planning authority as of August 23, 2024.
Six months ago, the NMMC gained authority over the 14 villages, which are Dahisar, Mokali, Walivali, Pimpri, Nighu, Navali, Wakaln, Bamarli, Narivali, Bale, Nagaon Bhandarli, Uttar Shiv, and Goteghar.
But the MMRDA’s continued possession of special planning power has put these areas’ development ambitions on hold. Subsequently, the NMMC had asked the state government to transfer these powers, and it has finally been granted.
The Integrated Development Control and Promotion Regulations and the current regional plan, which was authorized by MMRDA, will be in force until NMMC completes and executes a new development plan for these villages. It is also recommended that the NMMC work with MMRDA on current projects for which approvals have previously been obtained but development is not yet complete.
According to the Assistant Director of NMMC’s Urban Planning Department, the authority transfer would allow for more efficient development procedures for the 14 communities. Now that the government has given its approval, NMMC will begin work on creating a new development plan for these regions that will completely include them into the municipal development framework.

NMMC Steps Up Road Repairs Ahead of Ganeshotsav
Potholes and damaged roads to be fixed on key routes used for Ganesh idol processions and immersions.
The Repairs
With Ganeshotsav just around the corner, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stepped up efforts to make city roads safer and smoother for residents and devotees.
NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has directed officials to inspect damaged roads and take up urgent repairs, with priority being given to routes that will witness the movement of large Ganesh idols and immersion processions. Engineering teams are inspecting roads for potholes, uneven surfaces, damaged manholes and problems with storm-water drains. Since the monsoon is still active, temporary repairs are being carried out using materials such as cold mix and mastic geopolymer. Permanent road surfacing will be taken up once there is a sufficient break in the rainfall.
To improve monitoring, officials are also geo-tagging potholes so that their locations can be tracked and repairs can be completed without missing important stretches. The civic body is also working on improving street lighting, cleanliness and facilities at immersion points to make the festival more convenient for citizens.
For many residents, smooth roads are more than just a civic issue during Ganeshotsav they are essential for ensuring that processions can move safely and families can participate in the celebrations without worrying about potholes and damaged stretches. NMMC has also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the civic authorities and celebrate the festival responsibly, while keeping the city clean and environmentally friendly.
