CIDCO and Navi Mumbai Police take action against six dumper drivers in Vashi, Rabale, Kharghar and Karanjade.

The Action

CIDCO and the Navi Mumbai Police have intensified action against the illegal transportation and dumping of construction debris in Navi Mumbai during the Ganeshotsav period. Authorities have been conducting joint operations, particularly at night and during the early morning hours, when illegal dumping is often carried out.

On Tuesday midnight, a dumper carrying debris from Mumbai was stopped at the Vashi toll naka. The driver was taken into custody and a case was registered at Vashi Police Station. Early Wednesday morning, action was also taken against a 23-year-old driver in Rabale following a complaint by a CIDCO assistant executive engineer.

Later, around 3:45 am, three dumpers were found parked suspiciously in Kharghar Sector 39. During inspection, CIDCO officials found construction debris inside the vehicles. The drivers did not have the required documents permitting transportation or dumping of the debris. The vehicles were reportedly preparing to unload the material near Papadicha Pada in Taloja.

Cases were registered at Kharghar Police Station against the three drivers.

In another action, Panvel Police intercepted a truck carrying illegal debris at Sector 2A in Karanjade. The driver was taken into custody. Officials said monitoring and enforcement would continue alongside Ganeshotsav security arrangements to prevent illegal transportation and dumping of construction debris in Navi Mumbai.

Tree plantation, healthcare felicitation, free eye check-ups and educational support held across several areas.

The Social Initiatives

The Republican Party of India (RPI) organised a series of social welfare activities across Navi Mumbai to mark the birthdays of Maharashtra Forest Minister and Palghar Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik and RPI Maharashtra Vice-President Sidram Ohol.

The programmes were held under the leadership of RPI Navi Mumbai Youth President and NMMC Transport Committee member Advocate Yashpal Ohol.

At Dhammadeep Buddh Vihar in Airoli Sector 3, a tree plantation drive was conducted under the theme “One Tree, One Responsibility.” Citizens were encouraged to plant trees and take responsibility for their upkeep.

Healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and ward boys at Mata Bal Hospital in Airoli, were felicitated for their continued service. As part of the initiative, potted saplings were presented to them, combining appreciation for their work with a message of environmental conservation. A free eye examination and cataract treatment camp was also organised at Digha with the support of Lakshmi Eye Care. Residents received eye check-ups, spectacles-number testing and free cataract surgery for eligible patients.

At Khairane village, educational materials were distributed among students to support their studies. Mathadi workers at the APMC Fruit Market were also felicitated, while the importance of tree plantation was highlighted. RPI office-bearers and workers from various Navi Mumbai units attended the programmes. The organisers said the initiatives aimed to celebrate the leaders’ birthdays through community service and encourage citizens to contribute to social welfare and environmental protection.

Dr Kailas Shinde highlights the role of engineers in improving civic services and adopting new technologies.

The Tribute

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on National Engineers’ Day on September 15.

The programme was held to remember the contributions of Sir Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most respected engineers, whose work played an important role in the country’s development. Dr Shinde performed a puja of Sir Visvesvaraya’s portrait and congratulated engineers on the occasion. He appreciated their efforts in maintaining the quality of civic services and contributing to NMMC’s reputation through their work.

The Commissioner also stressed the need for engineers to stay updated with new technologies and modern developments in their field. He said that continuous learning and the adoption of innovative methods are important for improving the efficiency of civic infrastructure and services. City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, Assistant Director of Town Planning Somnath Kekan, Deputy Commissioner of the Garden Department Smita Kale, Additional City Engineer Madan Waghchaude and several other engineers were present at the programme.

The gathering served as an opportunity to recognise the dedication of NMMC’s engineering team and reflect on the importance of engineering in the city’s growth and development.
