Ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe has assured citizens that no major law and order issues are anticipated despite a nationwide strike call by gig and app-based delivery workers. The strike, announced by delivery personnel associated with food and quick-commerce platforms, is expected to impact last-minute deliveries but not public safety, police said.

Speaking on the issue, Commissioner Bharambe stated that the police administration is fully prepared and has already been alerted about the proposed strike. He said that constant communication is being maintained with delivery workers and relevant stakeholders to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure smooth law enforcement during one of the busiest nights of the year.

The strike involves gig workers linked to popular platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit and Zepto, who have called for a collective slowdown or log-off to highlight their demands. As a result, residents in Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas may experience delays or disruptions in food, grocery and e-commerce deliveries, particularly during peak celebration hours.

However, the police commissioner emphasized that the situation remains under control. Adequate deployment has been planned across the city, especially at key locations, to ensure public safety and uninterrupted movement. Authorities are also monitoring the situation closely to respond promptly if any issues arise.

While union representatives have indicated that participation in the strike could be significant, the police have reiterated that there is no cause for concern. Citizens have been advised to plan in advance, remain calm and cooperate with authorities as Navi Mumbai gears up to welcome the New Year under heightened security and vigilance.
