The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken strict action against construction activities violating air pollution control norms, ordering the shutdown of 19 construction sites and issuing notices to 42 others across the city. The action was taken as part of intensified enforcement under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-4) following a rise in air pollution levels.

According to civic officials, inspections were carried out by ward-level flying squads to assess compliance with mandatory environmental safeguards at construction sites. During these checks, stop-work notices were served on 19 sites where the Air Quality Index (AQI) was found to be above permissible limits, while 42 sites were issued advisory and show-cause notices for failing to follow dust-control and pollution-mitigation norms.

The civic body has also imposed penalties on several developers for repeated non-compliance. NMMC officials stated that all construction sites are required to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including the installation of air quality monitoring devices, covering of construction material, regular water sprinkling and proper barricading to prevent dust dispersion. Around 30 construction sites have already installed monitoring systems, officials added.

In addition to regulatory action, the municipal corporation has intensified mechanized road sweeping, dust removal from roads and footpaths, and water spraying in various parts of the city to reduce airborne dust. Citizens have been advised to rely on official sources such as the SAMEER app and Central Pollution Control Board platforms for accurate air quality information.

NMMC reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue to ensure improved air quality and safeguard public health in Navi Mumbai.

Jayesh Pawar alleges massive financial losses and urges authorities to act against gaming platforms.

The Addiction

The growing popularity of online gaming for quick money is raising concerns in Navi Mumbai, with one resident claiming that he lost around Rs 2.5 crore after becoming trapped in the cycle of online gaming.

Navi Mumbai resident Jayesh Pawar has approached the authorities seeking action, alleging that he suffered huge financial losses through online gaming platforms. He also claimed that he lost around Rs 35 lakh at one stage while trying to recover earlier losses.

According to Pawar, the problem often begins with small bets. Initial wins can create confidence, encouraging players to invest larger amounts. Once losses begin, players may put in even more money in the hope of recovering what they have already lost.

Pawar claimed that he is not the only person facing such difficulties. He said several young people have reportedly lost lakhs and even crores through online gaming. Some, he alleged, borrowed money or sold property to continue playing.

The issue has also raised concerns about the wider impact of gaming addiction, including financial stress and problems within families. Pawar has urged the authorities to investigate such platforms and take appropriate action. His case has highlighted the need for greater awareness about the risks of chasing quick profits through online gaming.
