NMMC appeals violators to remove the tree-nailed advertisements in 3 days
The city’s residents have been urged not to nail any trees by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) gardening and tree authority department. The local government has given everyone three days to take down any ads they may have tacked to trees. If the appeal is not followed, a police report will be filed against the violators. The cables supporting the ads are fastened to the trees across the nodes using nails. All of the nodes’ markets, APMC-Vashi, are where you may find the majority of them. Playgrounds and gardens are not an exception. The information in the advertisements relates to fees, coaching sessions, tiffin services, etc.
Even ribbon lights have been seen on trees in various locations. These lights have an influence on their photosynthesis, which impacts their growth. In addition to putting concrete around their trunk, the authorities have ignored all of these issues. In accordance with the Bombay High Court’s ruling and the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation Tree Act-1975, proper protocol, such as the presence of an assistant tree or garden officer while pruning, is not followed. Activists claim that civic organisations are assigning drivers or contract workers that practise asymmetrical tree pruning.
Anarjit Chauhan, an activist, claimed: “Many trees have died as a result of different unlawful acts. The majority of trees fell during thunderstorms or rain because of uneven tree trimming. For asymmetrical tree pruning, the Thane Municipal Corporation has previously been fined Rs 50,000. Dilip Nerkar, deputy commissioner for gardens at the NMMC, said: “This exercise seeks to raise public awareness about protecting trees. All ground level employees will soon participate in a training session on tree cutting to prevent tree uprooting. There is a staffing shortage.
