In a shocking incident, a 29-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly burgling her sister’s house in Mumbra, Thane district, and stealing valuables worth Rs 24.42 lakh.

The burglary took place on August 31 when the victim had gone to visit her mother. Upon returning, she found her flat ransacked and valuables missing. Interestingly, police found no signs of forced entry, raising suspicion that the crime may have been committed using a duplicate key.

Based on a complaint, the Mumbra police launched an investigation and swiftly tracked the suspect. Technical evidence, including mobile phone records and CCTV footage from the vicinity, pointed towards the victim’s own sister. Acting quickly, police apprehended the accused within just eight hours of the crime.

During questioning, the woman initially tried to mislead investigators but eventually confessed to the burglary. The stolen property has since been recovered.

Officials described the case as a “breach of trust within the family” and highlighted the efficient police response. “Despite the unusual nature of the case, our team acted on technical inputs and cracked the crime in record time,” a senior officer said.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for housebreaking and theft. She remains in custody as further investigations are underway.

The incident has shocked the local community, where residents expressed disbelief over such a crime involving close relatives.

Trusting the couple’s convincing pitch and forged documents, the businessmen transferred a total of Rs 1.45 crore across multiple transactions into accounts operated by the suspects.

The fraud came to light when the victims failed to receive the promised returns or principal investments within the agreed timeframe. Upon attempting to confront the couple, the businessmen found that the duo had shut down their operations, switched off their mobile phones, and fled their residence.

Realizing they had been cheated, the aggrieved businessmen approached the police and lodged a formal complaint. Based on their statements, law enforcement authorities registered a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery against the absconding couple.

Police teams have been dispatched to trace the suspects using technical intelligence and informant networks, while bank accounts linked to the accused are being audited and frozen to recover the defrauded funds.
