Initiated in 1995 by Dr. Sanjeev Naik, the Kartik Ekadashi pilgrimage continues to unite thousands of Warkaris in faith, devotion, and cultural pride.

The Tradition

Navi Mumbai, known for its vibrant spiritual and cultural heritage, celebrated the 30th year of its annual Wari—a pilgrimage from Navi Mumbai to Shri Kshetra Alandi—held in honour of Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli’s Kartik Ekadashi. The tradition, initiated in 1995 when Dr. Sanjeev Naik first became the city’s Mayor, continues to flourish as a symbol of devotion and unity.

This year too, Member of Parliament Dr. Sanjeev Naik joined the Warkari devotees at Bhandara Dongar near Dehu, extending greetings, distributing fruits, and wishing them well for their onward journey. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naik lauded Navi Mumbai’s rich spiritual heritage and praised the Warkari Sampradaya for fostering a culture of love, faith, and togetherness.

Prominent Warkari leaders including Adityavar Maharaj Eknath Maharaj Mhatre, Tukaram Maharaj Rankar, Ramanbua Patil, and Vilas Maharaj Tandel have kept the tradition alive through bhajans, kirtans, and spiritual discourses over the decades. Inspired by them, thousands of devotees now undertake the pilgrimage on foot from Navi Mumbai to Alandi and Pandharpur each year.

The new generation of Hari Bhakts, including Sopanbua Patil, Vilas Maharaj Tandel, Sunil Maharaj Rankar, Krishna Maharaj Mhatre, and Somnath Patil, are continuing the legacy with great devotion and enthusiasm.

The event was attended by corporators Chhaya Mhatre, Vaishali Naik Mhatre, Usha Bhoir, social worker Sheetal Bhoir, and several dignitaries including Jagdish Bua Patil, Laxman Bua Patil, Pratap Mahadik, and theatre director Nandkumar Mhatre.
