Moving Car Catches Fire in Koparkhairane; SUV Gutted, Driver Booked for Altering CNG Kit

A major fire incident was reported on the Vashi–Koparkhairane road near D-Mart when a moving car suddenly caught fire, leading to extensive damage to two vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to police, the car was being driven by Satish Bansode (41), an electrician and resident of Koparkhairane, who is employed on contract with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). As the car caught fire, Bansode managed to steer it to the roadside and stop near a parked SUV, but the flames quickly spread, completely gutting his car and partially damaging the SUV.

Fire officials from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) reached the spot and doused the flames before they could spread further. Preliminary investigations suggest that the CNG kit in Bansode’s car had been modified, and a faulty gasket may have caused a gas leak, triggering the blaze.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered against the driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita for endangering public safety, and under the Motor Vehicles Act for unauthorized modification of the CNG system.

Police have urged vehicle owners to avoid tampering with CNG installations and ensure that all fittings are approved and regularly inspected by certified professionals to prevent such accidents.

Steady monsoon downpours boost primary water reservoir for Navi Mumbai residents.

The Storage

In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents, water levels at the Morbe Dam the primary drinking water source for the region have reached 75.66% of its total capacity, following consistent monsoon showers across its catchment area in Khalapur.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials confirmed that the rising water levels significantly reduce concerns over potential water cuts or supply disruptions in the coming months. The steady inflow has ensured a secure drinking water buffer for over 15 lakh residents across the city.

While the current stock is sufficient to meet daily demand well into early next year, civic engineers noted that sustained heavy downpours are still required for the reservoir to hit 100% capacity and overflow. NMMC continues to monitor catchment rainfall closely to optimize seasonal storage reserves.
