MNS Warns of Protest Over Overpriced CIDCO Homes in Navi Mumbai

Published

on

The controversy over the high pricing of CIDCO’s new housing scheme has escalated, with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) threatening direct action if prices are not reduced. The party has warned that unless rates are slashed before Ganeshotsav, they will march to the Thane residence of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde.

MNS Navi Mumbai city president Gajanan Kale alleged that despite repeated protests, the government has ignored growing public anger over the unaffordable homes. CIDCO recently announced 26,000 houses under its scheme, but activists and citizens argue that the pricing makes them inaccessible to middle-class families. Kale accused Shinde of failing to address the issue, saying homebuyers are reaching their “breaking point.”

The party also criticized CIDCO’s decision to sell land in Nerul’s Sector 28, which had been earmarked in development plans for playgrounds, parks, senior citizen facilities, and a police station. Kale questioned how such land sales were approved despite official zoning plans.

Concerns over inflated rates have also been raised in the state assembly, with Minister Uday Samant earlier promising a 20–25% price reduction. However, no corrective measures have been implemented, deepening public distrust. Kale also took aim at Minister Ganesh Naik, alleging that despite attending weekly cabinet meetings, he has not acted on the housing issue.

“If the government continues to neglect citizens’ concerns, MNS will be forced to protest outside Eknath Shinde’s residence—even during Ganeshotsav,” Kale warned.
