MNS Secures Significant Victory With State Government Acts To Reserve 80% Of Employment In Navi Mumbai For Locals

Published

The state government’s Industries Department has ordered companies in Navi Mumbai to make sure that 80% of their employment is made up of locals, which is a major win for the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). This instruction is the consequence of MNS’s tireless work and campaigns, which have raised awareness of this important subject.

At a press conference on Monday, September 2, Navi Mumbai MNS City President Gajanan Kale announced the success. He said that the Industries Department had officially sent letters to all companies registered with the department, instructing them to strictly implement the government’s mandate of 80% employment for locals.

This is considered to be the first significant achievement in MNS’s continuous effort to provide jobs for the local community.

MNS employees have been aggressively campaigning around Navi Mumbai over the last month, gathering resumes from young people in the region and holding signature drives at significant sites including residential neighbourhoods and train stations. Additionally, they sent a formal statement pleading for the rigorous implementation of this government decision to Dilip Pawar, the Commissioner of the Department of Skill, Employment, and Industry. Shirsat, the Joint Director of Thane’s Industries Department, received a similar petition.

Kale emphasised the possible effects of this policy, stating that four to five lakh jobs might be made available to young people in the area if businesses comply. Additionally, he attacked the governing elite for planning job fairs that prioritise restricted, low-paying vocations like security guard jobs over substantial employment options.

Kale questioned if the organisers had fulfilled their promises and pushed them to be transparent about the results of these employment fairs. In the next fifteen days, he said, if significant progress is not made in implementing the 80% local employment requirement, MNS will take additional steps, including perhaps dissolving the Employment and Industries Department after Anant Chaturdashi.

MNS Employment Department General Secretary Sanjay Lonkar, party members Yogesh Shete and Sachin Kadam, and others attended the news conference and pledged to keep up the battle for local workers’ rights.

Seawoods residents seek strict action against tobacco sales near educational institutions and public spaces.

The Cigarette Sales

Residents of Sector 25, Seawoods, Nerul, have raised concerns over students allegedly smoking in public places and the suspected sale of cigarettes to minors.

Following repeated complaints, the ward officer and local police conducted a raid at a paan shop on the ground floor of Ambika Heights on the night of September 11. Officials reportedly found cigarette cartons at the shop, but no other illegal intoxicating substances.

Residents said students, reportedly aged between 17 and 22, are frequently seen smoking near Seawoods railway station, the bridge and other public areas. They suspect that a local paan shop may be supplying cigarettes to college students. Prakash Yawalkar, president of the Seawoods Citizens Welfare Association, said students were openly smoking outside the shop, raising concerns among residents and parents.

The association has submitted complaints to the local police, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, mayor, local representatives and the Drug Department. It has urged authorities to strictly enforce the law prohibiting tobacco sales to minors and increase monitoring around schools, colleges and other student gathering points.

Residents said stronger action is needed to prevent tobacco use among young people and ensure that public spaces remain safe and healthy.
