Heavy Rains Cause Severe Waterlogging on National Highway in Ulwe’s Vahal Area

Heavy rains flooded the Vahal highway in Ulwe.

The Waterlogging

Continuous heavy rains in Navi Mumbai have once again exposed the city’s drainage woes, as severe waterlogging was reported under the flyover near Vahal Sai Temple on Amra Road in Ulwe Node. The highway stretch, which connects Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) with Navi Mumbai, was submerged under 2 to 2.5 feet of water, disrupting traffic movement on Monday.

Motorists, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, were forced to wade through the flooded stretch, creating a high risk of accidents. Residents pointed out that this location, falling under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), witnesses flooding every year during the monsoon as it lies in a low-lying area.

Despite repeated complaints, the problem remains unresolved. Locals said that on most occasions, water levels here rise up to three feet, severely inconveniencing daily commuters, especially since this route also serves as an access road to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Adding to the concern, several potholes have developed on the waterlogged road, compounding the risks for vehicles. “Immediate action is needed from NHAI to drain the water and repair the road. This situation has become a yearly nightmare for commuters,” said local resident Narendra Koli.

With Ulwe Node emerging as a rapidly growing residential hub, citizens demand long-term solutions from the authorities to prevent recurrent flooding and ensure safe travel along this crucial highway corridor.
