With protesting farmers continuing their sit-in “indefinitely” at the district headquarters in Karnal, the Haryana government has extended the suspension of mobile Internet services in the district till Thursday midnight, an order issued by the state Home Department said.
“Mobile Internet services in Karnal district will remain suspended from 07:00 hours till 23:59 hours of September 9,” said the order issued on Thursday.
Another round of talks between district officials and farmers protesting over a police lathi charge in Karnal last month had failed on Wednesday after which the protesters said they will continue their sit-in “indefinitely” at the district headquarters.
Earlier, mobile Internet services in Karnal were suspended from 12:30 pm on September 6 till 11:59 pm on September 7, and the suspension was extended till Wednesday midnight as the situation was considered “still volatile”.
“Whereas, it has been brought to my notice vide..dated September 9 by ADGP (CID), Haryana that the situation has been reviewed and observed to be still tense and would trigger any time which may adversely affect public safety and law and order situation in district Karnal,” said the order referring to the protesters’ call to continue the sit-in “indefinitely”.
The order, issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajeev Arora, said mobile Internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), SMS services, including bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services, etc provided on mobile networks, except voice calls, will remain suspended in Karnal district.
It said that the suspension of mobile Internet services was ordered to stop the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter on mobile phones and SMS. It said this could facilitate mobilization of mobs who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson, vandalism, or other violent activities. All telecom service providers of Haryana are, hereby, directed to ensure compliance of the order, it added.

Construction Projects Must Utilize Tertiary Processed Recycled Water, Under NMMC Regulations

NMMC mandates use of tertiary treated recycled water for construction projects.
The Regulation
In a major step towards water conservation, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has made it mandatory for developers to use tertiary treated recycled water in all construction projects approved by the Town Planning Department.
The initiative aims to curb the rising demand for potable water as the city grapples with declining rainfall and increasing concerns over water scarcity. With several redevelopment projects underway, the consumption of drinking water for construction has surged, putting additional strain on resources.
To address this, NMMC is leveraging its advanced sewage treatment infrastructure. The city currently operates seven sewage treatment plants using Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology. Additionally, tertiary treatment plants at Koparkhairane and Airoli utilize Ultra Filtration and Ultraviolet-Based Technology to further purify secondary treated water. This recycled water is already being supplied to industrial establishments in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area for non-potable use.
By enforcing the use of recycled water in construction, NMMC aims to reduce reliance on drinking water and promote sustainability. This regulation is expected to play a crucial role in preserving Navi Mumbai’s water resources for the future while ensuring responsible urban development.

Navi Mumbai To Face Water Supply Disruptions After Major Leakage Develops In Morbe Dam Pipeline Near Kalamboli.
The Disruption
Residents of Navi Mumbai and nearby areas, including Kharghar and Kamothe, will experience a major water supply disruption as a crucial water pipeline from Morbe Dam has developed a severe leakage near Marble Market, Kalamboli.
To facilitate urgent repairs, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has temporarily shut down the water supply from the Bhokarpada Water Treatment Plant. As a result, there will be no water supply this evening in Navi Mumbai and the CIDCO-administered areas. Additionally, water pressure is expected to be low on the morning of February 13.
The affected pipeline, with a 2042 mm diameter, is a primary source of water for Navi Mumbai. Repair work is being carried out on a priority basis, but authorities have urged residents to use water judiciously and cooperate until normal supply is restored.
The NMMC has assured citizens that efforts are underway to complete the repairs at the earliest. For further updates, residents can contact the NMMC helpline or visit the municipal corporation’s official website.
