Published

on

CM Ibrahim, a senior Congress official and member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, has resigned from the party. He declared in a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi that he is quitting the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.

“Madam Jee, for the last 12 years, I have put before you various grievances of the party in my several letters addressed to you, and you have replied that you will take required remedial actions,” the letter continues. But I haven’t noticed any changes thus yet.”

“if elections had been held to select the opposition leader or if an opinion had been taken from all our party MLCs, then I would have been elected because 18 members were supporting me, but the party selected Mr. BK Hari Prasad, the most junior member as the opposition leader in the Legislative Council,” Ibrahim said.

He said, “Whenever I have raised some basic queries regarding the operation & development of the party, I have not received a proper response.” He further alleged that, despite his seniority, he is unable to contact Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and that the General Secretaries in charge seem careless with relaying his messages.

He also stated that he has submitted his resignation to the Karnataka Legislative Council in this regard. He is anticipated to join the Janata Dal, according to reports (Secular). According to Ibrahim, the Congress party would not be able to gain power in Karnataka and will be demoted to the third position.

Congress’s performance has been worsening for a long time. In the recent assembly elections in five states, the party fared poorly. Notably, the Congress party won only two seats in Uttar Pradesh and got only 2.3 percent of the vote. Worse, the party has forfeited deposits on 97 percent of the state seats it ran for.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in Delhi will host a meeting of the Congress Working Committee tomorrow at 4 p.m., the party said on Saturday.
