CIDCO’s excessive housing costs for the EWS project is protested by MNS
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) was the target of a “Bhik Maga” protest by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the high cost of housing units for the EWS (economic weaker section) project. Shree Gajanan Kale, the city president and protest organizer, took the initiative. During the protest, the MNS employees asked for charity from bystanders and store owners.
Even though this plan and allocations are part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and are intended for low-income families, the protesters claim that CIDCO has kept the price of these homes at or around Rs. 35 lakhs.
They claim that CIDCO promised 322 square feet when submitting this proposal. The dwellings in the plan only have 290 square feet of space, though.
In an earlier meeting last week, the MNS delegation reviewed the claims with Rajesh Patil, Co-Managing Director of CIDCO. However, when CIDCO made no reaction, Gajanan Kale declared the “Bhik Maga” movement in opposition to CIDCO and the state administration.
Kale said, “We would ask Raj Thackeray, the party president, to meet with the officials and look at the situation. I’ll speak with the Chief Minister and address the matter as well.
