Weekly water shutdowns introduced in several nodes as CIDCO faces a daily shortfall of 50 million litres.

The Water Cut

CIDCO has announced a 15% water cut across areas under its jurisdiction in Navi Mumbai from November 2 due to a daily water shortage of 50 million litres. The restrictions will remain in force until further notice.

CIDCO currently receives around 311 million litres of water per day (MLD), against an estimated requirement of 361 MLD, resulting in a shortfall of 50 MLD.

As part of the measures, several areas will face a complete 24-hour water shutdown once a week. Kharghar and New Panvel East will face the shutdown on Mondays, while New Panvel West and parts of Ulwe will be affected on Tuesdays. Kalamboli will face restrictions on Wednesdays, Karanjade on Thursdays, and Taloja, Kalundre and Kamothe on Fridays.

Some parts of Ulwe and Dronagiri will receive water on alternate days. The shortage has particularly affected Kharghar and Taloja, where residents have reported low water pressure and inadequate supply. CIDCO has deployed water tankers and is monitoring their distribution through GPS tracking and CCTV surveillance.

The authority has appealed to residents to use water carefully, avoid washing vehicles with drinking water, prevent overhead tanks from overflowing and repair leaking taps and pipelines. The restrictions aim to manage available resources amid the continuing shortage.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule Directs CIDCO to Provide Financial Aid and Job to Family of Deceased Tribal Man

The 59-year-old Belpada resident died during an anti-encroachment drive on October 27, while CIDCO has denied any link between his death and the demolition operation.

The Help

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed CIDCO to provide financial assistance and a job to an eligible family member of Balu Rama Kambade (59), a tribal resident of Belpada in Kharghar, who died on October 27.

BJP MLA Vikrant Patil said the directions were issued during a meeting at the minister’s office on October 28. The meeting also reviewed encroachments on government land and discussed the rehabilitation of 24 houses in Belpada. Chandrashekhar Bawankule directed CIDCO and the Raigad district administration to prepare a list of unauthorised structures and their occupants. The minister also asked CIDCO to submit a proposal to the Urban Development Department for financial assistance to Kambade’s family and employment for one of his eligible heirs. Patil questioned why residents had not been served notices at least a week before the demolition drive.

Kambade was found lying inside his hut at Adivasi Wadi near Sai Temple around 11 am on October 27. He was taken to Panvel Sub-District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His family alleged that the eviction drive contributed to his death and initially refused to accept the body, demanding action against the officials under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

CIDCO denied the allegations, stating that the operation involved an unauthorised commercial structure and a tarpaulin shed, while Kambade’s hut was untouched. Kharghar police have registered an accidental death report under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The cause of death remains under investigation.
