The Celebration

For over four decades, CBD Cha Raja has stood as a symbol of harmony, celebrating the spirit of ‘One God – One Religion’. Now in its 43rd year, the Ganesh mandal at Sector 2, CBD Belapur, continues to attract thousands, not just for its grand idol but also for its enduring message of unity.

Organised by the Sai Ekta Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mitra Mandal, the festival has been guided by President Balu Gopal Chandani, Secretary Vijay Galande, Treasurer Ejaz Rahamat Khan, and Advisor Sabu P. Daniel. Since its inception in 1982, the mandal has brought together members of all faiths to promote peace and communal harmony.

This year’s 13-foot idol, crafted by Chembur sculptor Bapi Bhendekar, sits in a regal posture adorned with a silver crown, silver-plated hands and feet, and a golden ring. The eco-friendly pandal, a 60-by-30-foot replica of the Jagannath Temple designed by Raja Decorators, adds grandeur to the celebrations.

Daily aartis at 9 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. see devotees of all religions join in prayers, turbans, gulal, and immersion processions, reflecting the inclusive spirit. Cultural programmes include a bhajan contest, a newly introduced ‘Reel Competition’ promoting social messages, and a health camp. On September 5, a grand Satyanarayan Mahapuja will precede the idol’s immersion.

Despite costs rising to Rs 12–13 lakh this year, the organizers remain committed to preserving the tradition. At its core, CBD Cha Raja continues to remind devotees that faith unites rather than divides.
