Bombay High Court Slams CIDCO Over Illegal Buildings in Uran, Orders Demolition
The Bombay High Court has strongly criticized the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for its role in permitting illegal constructions in Uran’s Chanje village, ordering the demolition of five unauthorized buildings within four weeks.
On June 20, a bench of Justices A.S. Gadkari and Kamal Khata highlighted the authorities’ failure to act on multiple complaints from local residents regarding the illegal structures. The court noted serious lapses by CIDCO and indicated possible collusion with property developers, including Vinayak Developers and landowner Vivek Deshmukh.
Residents Meenanath Patil and Vijay Jadhav, who filed the petition, alleged that construction began in 2013 with an NOC, despite developers lacking mandatory CIDCO approval. This led to restricted access to their own homes. CIDCO inspected the site in 2014 and issued notices under the MRTP Act. An FIR was filed in 2016, yet construction continued.
CIDCO’s own affidavit from August 2024 confirmed unauthorized occupancy, and a regularization plea by the developers was rejected in January 2025. Despite this, the developers secured an interim stay from the Supreme Court, which ruled that no eviction could occur without its consent.
The High Court slammed CIDCO for negligence and weak enforcement that allowed unauthorized structures to flourish, affecting innocent buyers. It also directed that action be taken against negligent government officials and overturned a lower court’s order that had maintained the status quo.
The case highlights growing concerns over unchecked urban development following enhanced connectivity in areas like Uran.

Online Gaming Addiction Leaves Navi Mumbai Man Claiming Rs 2.5 Crore Loss
Jayesh Pawar alleges massive financial losses and urges authorities to act against gaming platforms.
The Addiction
The growing popularity of online gaming for quick money is raising concerns in Navi Mumbai, with one resident claiming that he lost around Rs 2.5 crore after becoming trapped in the cycle of online gaming.
Navi Mumbai resident Jayesh Pawar has approached the authorities seeking action, alleging that he suffered huge financial losses through online gaming platforms. He also claimed that he lost around Rs 35 lakh at one stage while trying to recover earlier losses.
According to Pawar, the problem often begins with small bets. Initial wins can create confidence, encouraging players to invest larger amounts. Once losses begin, players may put in even more money in the hope of recovering what they have already lost.
Pawar claimed that he is not the only person facing such difficulties. He said several young people have reportedly lost lakhs and even crores through online gaming. Some, he alleged, borrowed money or sold property to continue playing.
The issue has also raised concerns about the wider impact of gaming addiction, including financial stress and problems within families. Pawar has urged the authorities to investigate such platforms and take appropriate action. His case has highlighted the need for greater awareness about the risks of chasing quick profits through online gaming.
