BJP Youth Wing Urges NMMC to Announce Clear Policy on PoP Ganesh Idol Immersion

Amid growing concerns ahead of Ganeshotsav 2025, BJP Navi Mumbai Youth Wing has urged NMMC to issue a clear policy on PoP idol immersion.

The Want

The BJP Navi Mumbai Youth Wing, under the leadership of District President Datta Ghangale, has urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to release a clear and timely policy regarding the immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols ahead of Ganeshotsav 2025.

The demand follows the Bombay High Court’s ruling on June 9, 2025, which permitted the manufacture and sale of PoP idols but prohibited their immersion in natural water bodies without prior court approval. The court also directed the state government to issue a comprehensive policy on idol immersion by July 23.

Highlighting the significance of Ganeshotsav celebrations in the Sidhu-Karavenagar area—where hundreds of idols are immersed annually—Ghangale warned that the lack of clear guidelines could lead to confusion and disruption during the festival.

In his letter to NMMC, Ghangale recommended the immediate publication of an idol immersion policy, introduction of eco-friendly alternatives such as artificial ponds and mobile immersion tanks, and awareness drives to educate Ganesh Mandals and citizens about the new court directives.

He also called for clear guidelines for idol sellers and a simplified permission process to avoid last-minute hurdles.

While commending NMMC for securing the top spot in the ‘Super Special League’ category of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Ghangale emphasized the need for swift action to ensure an environmentally sustainable and well-organized Ganeshotsav 2025.

With the dam’s capacity exceeding 60%, local civic authorities confirm that the immediate water supply outlook for the city has improved substantially, ensuring sufficient drinking water stock for the coming months. Navi Mumbai Police Bust Inter-District Gang Targeting Senior Citizens Inside Housing Societies

The Central Crime Branch of Navi Mumbai Police has busted an inter-district gang targeting elderly women inside housing societies to snatch gold chains and mangalsutras, arresting three suspects identified as Riyaz Ramzan Shaikh, Jamalbadshah Manirul Gazi, and Ashik Billa Gazi.

The police recovered stolen goods worth Rs 12 lakh from the trio, including 95 grams of gold ornaments and two motorcycles used in the commission of the crimes. The investigation was triggered by a chain-snatching incident in Khandeshwar on May 15, where CCTV footage clearly captured one of the suspects.

By matching the visuals with criminal databases, technical intelligence, and local informant tips, police traced the gang to Mira Road and Bihar. Investigations revealed that the gang specifically entered residential complexes to target senior citizens before escaping on stolen two-wheelers using familiar local shortcuts, which one suspect knew well from his prior employment in Kamothe.

To evade law enforcement, the culprits would quickly sell the stolen gold in the region and flee to their native villages in West Bengal and Bihar. With their arrest, the police have solved at least nine cases of theft and robbery across Navi Mumbai, Mira Road, and neighboring areas. The accused, who carry prior charges involving vehicle theft and drug trafficking, have been remanded to judicial custody as authorities work to curtail similar residential property crimes.
