At the NMMC’s drawing contest, 1.8L children submit their most heartfelt works

An impressive response was received to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) large-scale drawing competition that focused on cleanliness. At the tournament, more than 1.83 lakh children from urban schools took part. ‘Best of India Records’ has designated the occasion as the biggest drawing contest in the nation. The adjudicator of the records book handed the certificate to NMMC commissioner Rajesh Narvekar after the panel had validated the final count. The second Indian Swachhta League (ISL), a nationwide inter-city cleanliness competition established by the Central Government, including the record-breaking effort.

The event’s themes included the battle against the use of prohibited plastic, the battle for clean, green neighbourhoods, and the battle against public spitting. More than 200 public and private schools participated in the activity. Narvekar was full of appreciation for his staff members for making the event, which included 1.83 lakh pupils from classes one through 10, a great success. “We had anticipated roughly one lakh pupils, but the total number exceeded our expectations. This shows how interested schoolchildren are in using art to express their ideas on a clean environment, according to Narvekar. The Swachh Drawing Competition is a project to get schoolchildren involved in leading the cleanliness push.

Our goal is for Navi Mumbai to win the national competition this time, and the key is widespread involvement’, said Dr. Babasaheb Rajale, the deputy municipal commissioner for NMMC and the leader of the Swachh programme. “The tournament took place concurrently on Friday between 9 and 11 am at the several schools under the control of NMMC. This was done to provide the pupils a forum to communicate their ideas about cleanliness via art. Three categories were used to divide the competition,” he said.  Students in the junior group were in grades one to four, while those in the second group were in grades five through eight. Students from grades 9 and 10 made comprised the senior group. The top three winners in each category will get Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, and Rs 5,000, respectively, according to NMMC. In each category, there might be up to 50 consolation awards awarded. The NMMC set three national records in the first ISL competition last year.

Tourism in Palghar district got a high-altitude boost on Independence Day with the grand unveiling of a spectacular glass skywalk at the famous Dabhosa Waterfall. Inaugurated by Maharashtra Forest Minister and District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the landmark project marks Palghar’s first-ever transparent skywalk, sparking immense excitement among locals and travel enthusiasts.

Engineered to offer an adrenaline-pumping perspective, the structure features a 5-meter-long transparent glass walkway leading to an 11-foot-wide circular viewing deck. Suspended high above the gorge, it gives visitors a front-row view of Dabhosa’s white waters cascading nearly 300 feet down into the lush green valley below.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ganesh Naik highlighted the dual focus on thrill and regional growth. A designated parking area roughly 400 to 500 feet away is being developed via specialized agencies to manage visitor footfall smoothly while generating vital local revenue for the village panchayat.

“Under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, our focus is bringing economic and educational progress to tribal-dominated districts like Palghar,” Naik said, emphasizing that eco-tourism projects create sustainable livelihoods.

The inauguration saw a strong turnout of dignitaries, including MP Dr. Hemant Savara, MLAs Rajendra Gavit and Harishchandra Bhoye, District Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, and SP Yatish Deshmukh. Sector 16A Mandal Honors Founders as Preparations Begin for Navi Mumbai’s Celebrated Ganeshotsav.

A wave of devotion hit Vashi Sector 16A as the Ganraj Vashi Cha Raja Mandal officially kicked off preparations for its 43rd Ganeshotsav celebration. Marking over four decades of community tradition, the mandal held a traditional Mandap Poojan and blessed its new idol transport trolley at Ganraj Chowk.

The ritual was led by Mandal President Vijay Walunj alongside his wife Archana Walunj, with local leader Anjali Walunj, Ajay Walunj, and a large gathering of residents in attendance. Amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, the mandal made a heartfelt gesture by inviting and honoring the senior citizens who founded the event 42 years ago.

“We owe our foundation to the elders who started this journey,” said Vijay Walunj. “With their blessings and the hard work of our youth volunteers, we are ready to welcome Bappa once again.”

Recognized last year as Navi Mumbai’s Best Ganeshotsav Mandal for its eco-friendly practices and social awareness themes, the committee promises another impactful experience this season.
