Santosh Baban Patil, a resident of Nerul, was charged with cheating and forgery by the Vashi police on January 19 for allegedly defrauding businessman Geet Chanda of Vashi of Rs 38 lakh in a fictitious land sale in MIDC. On Tuesday, another FIR was filed against him at the Turbhe MIDC police station. The accused is charged with defrauding hotelier Lokesh Shetty (40), a resident of Dombivli, of Rs 42 lakh by selling him three plots in the Turbhe MIDC region.

After signing an MoU, the accused progressively took payment from the hotelier by bank transfer, e-wallets, and even constructed a false bank account formed in the name of “MIDC CEO,” showing him phoney allocation letters of MIDC authorities. After the FIR was filed against him at the Vashi police station, the accused Santosh Patil vanished. According to the complaint Lokesh Shetty, the accused Santosh Patil approached his brother Umesh Shetty, who served as manager of their hotel in Turbhe, in December 2021.

In order to expand their hotel’s space, Patil made the offer to sell him the 100-meter PAP property behind the hotel. The PAP site, according to Patil, was given by MIDC to PAP supporter Khatun Sangurlikar, and he would close the sale for Rs 40 lakh. Later, Patil dallied in registering the three plots and eventually cut off communication in April 2022. Shetty sought clarification from a MIDC officer in Mahape, who informed him that the plot numbers provided in the assignment letters were fictitious. Furthermore, a demand draught payable to “MIDC CEO” has not yet been received as payment.
