On Saturday, two people were taken into custody for stealing vehicles from various locations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Ten autorickshaws and eleven two-wheelers are among the 21 stolen vehicles that the APMC police have located.

Alam Rafiq Khan (23) and Salman Iqbal Sheikh (25) of Govandi have been named as the defendants.

Manik Nalawade, a senior police inspector, said that when looking into an autorickshaw theft that had been reported this month in the Turbhe region, investigators came across a CCTV recording that helped them identify the suspect.

Wasim Shaikh, an assistant police inspector, and his squad used the video to identify Khan. “Khan is a history-sheeter, so utilising the information we had in the department database, we were able to find him. Sheikh, the second defendant, served as his accomplice in the crime and joined him in doing it, according to Shaikh.

The police set a trap and captured the pair after learning that the suspects lived in the Govandi neighbourhood.

The offenders had taken these automobiles from the Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai districts, according to Vivek Pansare, zone I deputy commissioner of police.

They admitted to stealing a number of autorickshaws and two-wheelers from the APMC and Koparkhairane police station areas in Navi Mumbai as well as from Samtanagar, Kalwa, Mankhurd, BKC, Gaondevi, Deonar, DN Nagar, and Tilak Nagar after being questioned by the police further.

Shaikh continued, “The accused had intended to sell off different components of the stolen cars to scrap merchants, but we seized the vehicles before they could accomplish that.

Eight cases in the APMC and three in the Koparkhairane police station boundaries have been resolved as a result of their arrest. The two are now being held by the APMC police, but the Koparkhairane police will eventually demand their custody.
