Ukraine accuses Russia of war crimes alleging the deaths of children

Published

on

Official reports on the continuing battle in Ukraine indicated that 144 children have been killed and more than 220 civilians have been injured so far as a result of Russia’s ‘unprovoked’ invasion of the country. On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office released a report detailing Russian war crimes, claiming that Russian troops demolished more than 60 Ukrainian churches and religious institutions. Russian armed forces have also harmed around 733 educational establishments.

It’s been 34 days since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “special military operation to denazify” Ukraine, as he stated. Thousands have died in the ensuing fighting, cities have been razed, and the ex-Soviet state has become a macabre trap. In this regard, the Prosecutor General’s Office claims that Kremlin troops have committed 3,236 acts of aggression. In addition, Putin’s soldiers have perpetrated 1,885 other crimes against Ukraine’s national security.

The United States has issued a warning to Russia on alleged war crimes.

However, in a news conference on Thursday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that every war crime committed by Moscow will be documented and handed to the International Criminal Court. This follows claims on Wednesday that the Russian military bombed a theatre in south-eastern Ukraine. “Department of State experts are recording and investigating suspected war crimes in Ukraine to enhance international efforts toward accountability,” Blinken said during a press briefing at the State Department. Experts are currently recording and assessing suspected war crimes in Ukraine, he added.

President Joe Biden has pledged $800 million in extra military support to Ukraine to reinforce Ukraine’s military in its fight against Russia, according to Blinken. This came after Volodymyr Zelensky gave a virtual speech to Congress, pleading for additional assistance in combating Russia’s invasion.

“In his perspective, war crimes have been committed in Ukraine, according to President Biden. I agree with you. It is a war crime to deliberately target people “he explained.
