Members of the Vikassheel Insaan Party a close partner of the NDA have switched to the BJP

All three MLAs of Bihar minister Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) deserted the party on Wednesday and joined the BJP, marking a significant political shift in Bihar.

According to sources, three Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) MLAs – Rajoo Kumar Singh of Sahebganj, Mishri Lal Yadav of Alinagar, and Swarna Singh of Gaura Bauram – have resigned from the party and pledged their allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Wednesday, the three legislators presented their letter of support for the BJP to Bihar Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha.

Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Bihar BJP president, and deputy chief ministers Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi welcomed the three former VIP MLAs into the party later in the day. The VIP is a coalition partner of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the BJP, the Janata Dal-United (JDU), and the Hindustan Awami Morcha (HAM). In Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, VIP chief Mukesh Sahani is the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Resources.

It’s worth noting that in the 2020 Bihar elections, VIP gained four seats, but Mukesh Sahani lost his and was later handed an MLC seat.

Three MLAs resigned from the party just hours after the VIP chairman traveled to Muzaffarpur, Bihar, to witness the filing of nomination papers for Geeta Kumari, the party’s candidate for the by-election to the Bochaha assembly seat. Following the death of VIP MLA Musafir Paswan, the seat became vacant.

Meanwhile, a group of BJP leaders has demanded Sahani to quit his position as minister. Since deciding to field candidates against the BJP in seven seats in the next legislative council election in the state, Sahani has been a target of the BJP leadership. The BJP leadership was enraged by the VIP chief’s attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Well with the addition of the three MLAs, the saffron party’s overall number of MLAs has increased to 77 from the previous 74, making it Bihar’s single largest political party. With 75 MLAs, RJD was previously the single largest party.
