Nusrat Jahan claims that Indian soil is inappropriate for Bullet trains

Published

on

Nusrat Jahan, a member of the Trinamool Congress, made an odd allegation on the floor of parliament on Wednesday, claiming that India’s bullet train project is a bluff because the country’s soil is unsuitable for laying railway tracks for high-speed trains.

Nusrat Jahan, an actress-turned-politician from West Bengal’s Basirhat constituency, argued in the Lok Sabha that the Indian soil is unfit to build any infrastructure required to run the bullet train technology. She expressed questions about the bullet train project’s feasibility, arguing that India, unlike Japan, could not run high-speed trains.

“Vision of operating bullet trains in India, similar to those in Japan, is a bluff to the country.” Such railway tracks cannot be built on Indian soil. The TMC MP tweeted, “It is the Science / not to be regarded as a single speech at a street corner meeting.”

Nusrat Jahan’s strange speech, in which she lacks a basic understanding of India’s topography and casts doubt on the talents of Indian engineers and scientists, sparked outrage not only in parliament but also among the general public. People have mocked Nusrat Jahan’s Lok Sabha speech on the internet.

Nusrat Jahan, a TMC MP, has been slammed by the Railway Minister.

TMC MP Nusrat Jahan has been chastised by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for saying that Indian soil is unsuitable for bullet train technology. The minister claimed that the TMC MP was casting doubt on Indian scientists’ skills.

In response to the arguments, Vaishnaw claimed Nusrat Jahan’s comments expressing questions about the bullet train project were disgusting. Those who speak about “Maa-Maati-Manush” (Mother, Motherland, and People), he said, are demeaning the mother (earth) and the motherland.

“How can one say we won’t be running bullet trains on Indian soil?” the Railway Minister questioned the TMC MP, adding that the TMC MP was demeaning the country’s scientists and engineers by casting doubt on their ability.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also provided updates on the bullet train project, stating that construction is progressing at an 8-kilometer-per-month rate, as well as the installation of pillars and bridges across all important rivers. He stated that the government intends to move on with this project at a rate of 10 kilometers each month in the future days.

It’s worth noting that Indian Railways is currently operating semi-high-speed trains without trouble on Indian land, and the TMC MP’s allegations are unsupported by scientific facts. Furthermore, the bullet train project’s track will be elevated for practically the whole length of its length; the tracks will not be on the ground.

Seawoods residents seek strict action against tobacco sales near educational institutions and public spaces.

The Cigarette Sales

Residents of Sector 25, Seawoods, Nerul, have raised concerns over students allegedly smoking in public places and the suspected sale of cigarettes to minors.

Following repeated complaints, the ward officer and local police conducted a raid at a paan shop on the ground floor of Ambika Heights on the night of September 11. Officials reportedly found cigarette cartons at the shop, but no other illegal intoxicating substances.

Residents said students, reportedly aged between 17 and 22, are frequently seen smoking near Seawoods railway station, the bridge and other public areas. They suspect that a local paan shop may be supplying cigarettes to college students. Prakash Yawalkar, president of the Seawoods Citizens Welfare Association, said students were openly smoking outside the shop, raising concerns among residents and parents.

The association has submitted complaints to the local police, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, mayor, local representatives and the Drug Department. It has urged authorities to strictly enforce the law prohibiting tobacco sales to minors and increase monitoring around schools, colleges and other student gathering points.

Residents said stronger action is needed to prevent tobacco use among young people and ensure that public spaces remain safe and healthy.
